Canberra Glassworks a different gallery in the City of Galleries

    The Canberra Glassworks is an accessible gallery and glass art studio located in the historic Kingston Power House. Inside, there is a viewing platform where visitors can watch glass artists at work on the Glassworks floor. It is fully accessible, featuring step-free entry via a paved pathway with automatic glass doors. The facility also includes a coffee cart with tables and chairs outside. There is a free Saturday Heritage Tour which is held at 11am most Saturday's but please be advised that bookings are essential.

    The Canberra Glassworks are also in close proximity to the Old Bus Depot Markets which are held every Sunday from 9:30am-2pm. Across from these buildings is Kingston Foreshore which has an array of cafes and restaurants. Restaurants such as Walt & Burley, Chong Co Thai, Coconine, Lakeside Gurkhas, Sammy's@Foreshore, Beef & Barley, Molto Italian, Cinnabar Asian Restaurant and 7 by the Lake are the perfect spots to end your day. The Foreshore also has a range of cafes such as 7th Bake & Patisserie, Local Press Cafe and Dockside Cafe where you can grab a coffee and pastry to go and go enjoy the view at Bowen Park.

    Wide pathways along the Foreshore allow for relaxing views of the water and eventually lead to a segment of the loop around Lake Burley Griffin. If you need some rest and respite Bowen Park is the perfect leisurely spot for a picnic. It is located next to Kingston Foreshore on Lake Burley Griffin's East Basin in Barton. It is a quiet area, with space for picnics, fishing and exploring. It offers a distant view of the Canberra landscape and aquatic birds.

    What can be found here:

    • A lift provides access to the mezzanine public viewing platform and the Hotshop, with the glassblowing area on the left upon exiting the lift. For wheelchair users, it's necessary to retrace the route back to the main lift and proceed past the neon workshop to a set of glass doors, where a wheelchair platform lift (maximum weight 300kg) is available to reach the Engine Room floor due to some steps in the circuit. Before using the platform lift, please inform a staff member for assistance.

    Accessible toilets

    • There is one accessible toilet by the lift foyer on the ground floor of the venue.
    • Accessible toilets 500 meters away at Bowen Park (3-9 Bowen Drive)

    Accessible parking

    • Parking is available directly outside, onsite linked by a ramp facilitagting access to mobility devices.
    • A free car park is located off Eastlake Parade, with six designated accessible parking spots near the Fyshwick side.
