The Centennial Parklands Accessibility Guide

Sydney's Eastern Suburbs are home to the Centennial Parklands, a large network made up of Queens Park, Centennial Park and Moore Park. The parks flow into one another, with plenty of level paths, paved areas and open space that make them easy to explore for wheelchair users, prams and anyone who prefers a smoother walk. Entry is free, and there are accessible facilities, places to stop for food and drink, and plenty to see across each area. 🌳 Queens Park: The Warm-Up

Queens Park is the smaller and quieter of the three, with a flat, naturally accessible layout and wide paths that make it easy to take at your own pace.

🗺️ Suggested Route: Start from the Darley Road accessible parking bays — the wide, paved path leads straight from there. Head south first: you'll pass the southern fitness area and the free electric BBQ near Darley Road, then loop past the large, unfenced off-leash area (good spot to let the dog stretch its legs while you catch your breath). From there, the path continues step-free right up to Queens Park Kitchen for a coffee stop. On the way back, swing past the northern fitness area and exit near the Queens Park Road parking space if that's closer to where you're headed next. The whole loop stays on wide, paved pathways throughout.

🏞️ Centennial Park: The Main Attraction

Established in 1888 and with almost 31 million visitors a year, Centennial Park doesn't do anything by halves — it's the headlines act of the parklands, and the wide, flat paved paths make it one of the most wheelchair-friendly parks in Sydney. Ten ponds, over 120 bird species, and enough history to make your school excursions jealous.

🗺️ Suggested Route: If you're parking along Grand Drive, that's your start point — the paved path from there runs past the duck pond first (five accessible park spaces are right there too, so it works as an alternate starting point). From the duck pond, follow the path toward the Ian Potter Children's WILD PLAY Garden — it's fenced, so once you're in, the kids (or you) can roam without worry. From the play garden, the paved path continues past several of the interconnected ponds and shaded picnic spots — a good stretch to slow down for the 120 species of birdlife that call the park home — and passes two of the park's six free electric BBQ areas if you're stopping to cook rather than eat out. If you came in via Dickens Drive instead, you're closer to the eastern side of the pond network and can pick up the same loop from there. Either way, the paths stay wide and paved for the whole stretch — no gravel detours required. A Liberty Swing is also available at the Paddington Gates Playground in the northern areas of the park to those with access to a MLAK key.

🚌 Getting There: Bondi junction train station is a 10-minute walk from the northern end. Bus routes 333, 340, 352, 355, 389, and 440 all stop along Oxford Street near the gates.

🎡 Moore Park: Where the Action Is

Moore Park is the parklands built-up, bustling neighbour — home to the Entertainment Quarter (EQ), Hordern Pavilion, Equestrian Centre, a golf course, and the SCG and Allianz Stadium next door. Fewer ducks, more dining and shopping.

🗺️ Suggested Route: From the EQ carpark's accessible bays, the main ramped entry puts you straight into the Entertainment Quarter — shops, cinema, markets and restaurants all step-free from that entrance, so it's the easiest place to start if food or shopping is the plan. If you're after the Equestrian Centre or Moore Park Gold instead, both sit further out from the EQ core. The Hordern Pavilion and Royal Hall of Industries are both accessible from the same EQ entry point, so they fit into the same loop without backtracking.

The Entertainment Quarter's Wide, Paved Ground

🚌 Getting There: The same bus routes that service Centennial Park (333, 340, 352, 355, 389, 440) also stop at Moore Park; the Moore Park light rail stop sits on the Randwick Line.

🚗 Best Drop-off Spot: Depending on your plan for the day, the Entertainment Quarter is your best bet — it's the ramped main entry, putting you closest to the shops, cinema, and restaurants.
