About this place
The Charing Cross Hotel Pub is a heritage‑listed venue located at the intersection of Bronte Road and Carrington Road. Originally built in 1857, the building features several accessible design elements. Entry is through a narrow single swing door, which is usually kept open. Although there is one small step at the entrance, staff can provide a removable ramp stored just inside the doorway to facilitate wheelchair access. Inside, the flooring is a combination of smooth concrete, timber, and tiles. A variety of seating options are available—including standard tables and chairs, high and low cocktail tables, and bar stools. All furniture is moveable, allowing flexible arrangements to accommodate mobility needs. The bar itself is large and set at a standard height. An accessible toilet, combined with a baby change room, is available. The room is spacious and allows easy wheelchair manoeuvring. It includes a toilet with grab rails, a baby change table and a basin. The outdoor seating area requires stepping down to access. This space includes moveable tables and chairs on one side, and banquette seating with tables and chairs on the other. Large umbrellas provide shelter from both sun and rain. Accessible street parking is located at 214 Bronte Road, approximately 119 metres from the venue. Public transport access is also convenient, with bus routes 350, 379, and 390X stopping directly across the street at the Bronte Road and Carrington Road intersection.
