BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The Ultimo Community Centre holds a variety of art workshops on a rotating basis. Some workshops are free and some are paid, starting from as little as $5. Workshops range from drawing and painting to working with fabric and a variety of other forms of expression. There are also weekly singing lessons available. It is a wonderful community space to find ways to express yourself alongside like-minded individuals.
The centre offers a broad range of facilities including an indoor multipurpose sports court, an indoor multipurpose hall, two outdoor multipurpose courts, ping pong tables, a courtyard, a library, an arts and crafts room, childcare and meeting rooms.
HOW TO GET THERE? — Parking & Transport
By bus: There are two bus stops nearby on Harris Street. One is 190 metres away on the western side, and the other is 250 metres away on the eastern side. Both are serviced by route 501 travelling to Ryde or Railway Square. Please note the paths to the bus stops include some uneven surfaces.
By light rail: Exhibition Centre light rail station is 400 metres away, serviced by the L1 line travelling to Dulwich Hill or Central. Access to the station is via lift at the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre. Please note the path includes some uneven surfaces.
By train: There is no train station near the centre. Central Station is 1.5 kilometres away.
By community transport: The Village2Village community transport bus runs on Thursdays and Fridays. The Broadway to Woolloomooloo route via Sydney CBD stops outside the centre on William Henry Street near the corner of Harris Street.

By car: There are two dedicated accessible parking spaces on-site. Contact centre staff to confirm availability on 02 9298 3111 or [email protected]. The nearest on-street mobility parking is opposite the main entrance on Bulwara Road. There is also a set-down area for community buses, cars and taxis at the front of the centre on Bulwara Road.
The pathway to the entrance is level with some uneven bitumen. There are no steps and no handrail at the entrance.
ACCESS FEATURES
The entry doors are heavy double swinging glass doors that open to 1700mm wide and remain open during operating hours. The entrance is level access.
The arts and crafts room where workshops are held is to the immediate right of the front door.
The customer service desk has a protruding bench integrated into the reception window for wheelchair users. Please note there is no lowered counter for direct access to staff.
The centre has lift access to three of four floors — basement, ground, level 1 (library and meeting rooms) and level 2 (childcare and outdoor court 1). To reach the lift from the entrance, travel straight ahead past the reception desk — the lift is on the right-hand side next to the stairs. Lift doors open to 890mm wide. Buttons are illuminated with braille and are reachable from a seated position. Handrail is on the left-hand side only. Please note there are no audio announcements, no mirror and no circulation space in the lift.
Stairs lead to level 1 and are located directly next to the lift. There are two flights with 28 steps in total, 1640mm wide, with handrails on both sides (not continuous) and non-slip nosings.
A hearing loop is available in Little Bridge Hall only. The centre encourages visitors to reach out to staff regarding any additional accessibility needs.
Little Bridge Hall is accessed from the courtyard — travel straight ahead from the entrance, past the reception desk and through the glass doors. The single door to the hall opens to 850mm and remains open during operating hours. Both doors open to 1700mm wide. The hall features flexible spectator seating and a kitchenette (please note bench controls are not reachable from a seated position).
Indoor court is accessed via the courtyard. Double sliding glass doors remain open during operating hours and open to 2740mm wide.
Outdoor court 1 (level 2) is accessible via lift. A ramp leads from the lift exit to the court, 1560mm wide with continuous rails. The mesh gate entrance is 1600mm wide.
Outdoor court 2 (level 2) is accessible via stairs only and is not step-free.
TOILETS
There are three unisex accessible toilets — on the ground floor near reception, in Little Bridge Hall, and on level 1. There are no ambulant toilets or adult changing rooms at the centre.
Ground floor: From the entrance, travel straight ahead — the toilet is on the right before the reception desk. Heavy solid wood door, pull to open, entrance 1090mm wide. Left-hand side transfer. This toilet also includes a shower with a level floor, handrails, a height-adjustable shower head and controls reachable from a seated position. Please note there is no bench.
Level 1: From the lift, turn left and travel down the hallway. The toilet is on the left past the women's toilet. Heavy solid wood door, pull to open, entrance 1090mm wide. Left-hand side transfer.
Little Bridge Hall: From the hall entrance, turn left towards the hallway next to the kitchenette. The toilet is on the right. Heavy solid wood door, pull to open, entrance 1090mm wide. Left-hand side transfer.
Please note the earlier listing reference to ambulant toilets and an adult change facility was incorrect — these are not available at this centre.
