Vivid Sydney is Australia’s largest festival of light, music and ideas, transforming Sydney’s harbour foreshore into a spectacular after-dark experience every winter. This guide covers the Circular Quay and The Rocks precinct — from the Sydney Opera House along the foreshore to the historic laneways of The Rocks — with everything you need to plan your visit with confidence. The famous Vivid Light Walk is an accessible, self-guided 6.5km trail running nightly from 6pm and the best news is over 80% of it is completely free!

Lighting of the Sails: Opera Mundi Sydney Opera House, Bennelong Point French artist Yann Nguema lights up the Opera House sails every night from 6pm with a sweeping digital artwork inspired by architect Jørn Utzon and the natural world. Completely free to watch from the waterfront. Accessible viewing area on the Opera House lawn.
🔆 The Fringe of Infinity Customs House, Alfred Street Spanish artist Javier Riera projects ever-shifting geometric patterns across the entire Customs House facade. Meditative and mesmerising. Free, no ticket needed.
✨ Manawan (Day & Night), Alfred Street & Loftus Street, Circular Quay A towering steel forest of glowing woollybutt gum trees by Bardi man Darrel Sibosado. Visible 24 hours a day — even during the day before the lights switch on. Free.

Koro Loko (Day & Night — Low Sensory) Campbell's Cove, The Rocks An 11-foot iridescent heart sculpture covered in dichroic tiles — glitters in sunlight and glows at night. Free.
Dear You, Campbells Cove, The Rocks: A neon interactive message scrawled across what looks like ancient parchment. Blends design and cultural storytelling. Free.

❓FREQUENT ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Can I take the train to Circular Quay on Saturday night?
No — Circular Quay Station is skipped from 6pm–11pm on Saturday nights and Sunday 7 June. Use Wynyard Station instead. It’s fully accessible and just a 700m stroll north along George Street.
Q: Is The Rocks wheelchair accessible?
Partially. It has cobblestones, uneven surfaces, and steep hills which can be challenging. The lifts listed above are essential tools for navigating the area. Stick to Hickson Road along the waterfront for the flattest route.
