The Canberra & Region Visitor Information Centre is co-located with the National Capital Exhibition at Regatta Point overlooking Lake Burley Griffin, the Captain Cook Memorial Jet & national attractions.  Canberra's official & fully accredited tourism information centre is operated by VisitCanberra for the benefit of tourists & locals.

The venue offers step free entry via level paved pathway approach. Inside is spacious with lots of room to move around & the staff can help with any holiday questions, things to see & do, maps & information on all of Canberra’s attractions.  Plus you can book Canberra accommodation & buy tickets to exhibitions, tours & attractions. 

There is free Wi-Fi & a well-stocked shop of souvenirs, travel essentials & displays highlighting must see & must do experiences.

Accessible toilets can be found in the Regatta Point. Limited free parking available, along with designated free parking for caravans, camper trailers, coaches & RVs.

Canberra and Region Visitors Centre

Floriade is Australia's biggest celebration of Spring,  each year on the grounds of Canberra's beautiful Commonwealth Park.

Each year there's a theme, 'Art Of Bloom"  will be the theme for 2024. The park is alive with music, displays , market stalls, workshops all while taking in the wonder of nature and its colours.

Entry is Free  during the day but tickets need to be purchased for NightFest where you can enjoy it at night. 

Most of the park is wheelchair friendly with paved and flat terrain . Accessible bathrooms available at Commonwealth Park, Regatta Point Building and Parkes Way,  if a hoist or more privacy is needed they have Changing Places Pod with more room and privacy. The Pod and Key is located near the building next to FIRST AID .

Parking available near by at Commonwealth Park &  1 Regatta Pl Parking. Front Gate drop off zone available for mobility impaired or aged visitors.

Mobility Marquee available if wanting to hire walking frames ,wheelchairs or scooters.

Sensory hour is held during the week days from 9.30am to 10.30am (unless public holiday) where there's limited amplified sounds or performances to created a relaxed inclusive sensory experience.

Floriade (Grounds) 

Commonwealth Park is a large landscaped accessible park which runs from the city centre to the edge of Lake Burley Griffin. The park is the perfect place to stroll, roll, run, ride, play & picnic with its wide open grassed areas & intimate sculptured gardens, ponds & artworks.

The park includes a large outdoor stage called Stage 88, a permanent stage, which hosts several sporting, cultural & musical events throughout the year, an amphitheatre & a playground called Castle Playground.  All these are accessed via paved lead-in pathways. 

It's also home to the National Capital Exhibition at Regatta Point & each year is the venue for the nationally acclaimed festival of flowers, Floriade.

Accessible toilets can be found onsite at Commonwealth Park Multi-use at Regatta Place, Regatte Point Building on Barrine Drive.  Accessible parking can be found on Constitution Avenue & Allara Street.

Commonwealth Park

The accessible toilets in Commonwealth park can be found in-between Regatta Place & Parkes Way.

There is level paved lead-in pathway approach to three unisex toilets.

Commonwealth Park Accessible Toilet

The Captain Cook Memorial Globe is an accessible Terrestrial Globe around 3 metres in diameter & shows the three routes of Cook's voyages, which are described on the surrounding handrail. Meridians of longitude & parallels of latitude form this open-cage globe, with landmasses depicted in beaten bas-relief copper.  There are paved level pathways around the Memorial & along the waters edge with a large grassed area behind.  

The Captain Cook Memorial Jet is also located here in the Central Basin of Lake Burley Griffin, directly in front of the National Capital Exhibition at Regatta Point.    The Jet sends water to a maximum height of 152 metres, pumping it from,& returning it to, the lake. The exit velocity of water leaving the nozzle is 260 kilometres an hour.  Jet operates daily from 11am to 2pm. It is often turned on or coloured for special occasions & the best location from which to take photographs is the National Capital Exhibition at Regatta Point.

Captain Cook Memorial Globe

Captain Cook Memorial Jet is located in Lake Burley  Griffin, the Jet shoots water 114 metres in the air, the water is drawn from the lake through a 50 metre intake tunnel. The Jet is often coloured to commemorate a special occasions. When this is done ,the best location for photos is The National Capital Exhibition at Regatta Point.

The Jet is opened everyday from 11am to 2pm.

On the shore you can admire The Terrestrial Bronze Globe highlighting Captain Cooks, many voyages . 

Paid parking available in plenty of areas Regatta Point has accessible spots.

Accessible bathrooms are available one being at Acton Park about 9 min roll.

There is a large uncovered car park located on Barrine Drive, Canberra with plenty of regular spaces.

Three designated parking bays can be found at Regatta Place with paved level lead in pathways.

Acton District Park covers 10.4 hectares on the foreshore of Lake Burley Griffin’s West Basin.

There is an accessible paved level path around the park, picnic tables, gas & electric BBQs, drinking water, sheltered picnic area, boat hire & ferry rides.

On the eastern shoreline, you can fish from the vertical stone walls. There is also a sandy beach but the water is not suitable for swimming.

Accessible toilets can be found at the park & large car park with no designated accessible parking bays but the car parks is spacious. 

Acton Park

The Open Air Cinemas is a brilliant way to watch some great films under the beautiful Canberra outlook, on the grounds of Patrick White Lawns by the National Library.

This is a an Accessible event with designated wheelchair friendly bathrooms and Parking spaces available by the entry.

Bookplate is an accessible cafe located in the National Library of Australia offering a warm & inviting indoor dining space as well as an outdoor terrace with magnificent panoramic views of Lake Burley Griffin.

There are freestanding tables & chairs both inside & outside.  The restaurant offers an array of breakfast options, a large range of housemade cakes & petit slices, coffee, fresh-pressed juices, healthy smoothies, classic & craft beers, local wines, lunch & brunch options.

Accessible toilets can be found onsite with further ones at the Treasury Building & Old Parliament House Rose Gardens.

Bookplate

National Library of Australia is an accessible library with step free access via the Library foyer, Main Reading Room & exhibition galleries through automatic doors.

All other areas on the Ground Floor, including the Bookshop & Bookplate café, are accessible through open doorways.  You can access the building by the ramp on the south side of the building.  There are 15 stone steps leading to the front entrance. The steps have handrails that are lit at night.

Inside there are lifts with control panels at convenient height for people using wheelchairs.  Wheelchairs are available from the Foyer Information Desk on the Ground Floor.  All reading rooms have wheelchair-accessible desks.  There is a wheelchair-accessible photocopier in the Main Reading Room.  Wheelchair-accessible toilets are available on the Ground Floor and Lower Ground Floor.

There are 8 accessible car spaces are available in the carpark off Parkes Place, on the south side of the building. Signage and road markers show these areas.

Margot Wine & Espresso Bar

Brew & Brew is an accessible coffee shop loated on Constitution Avenue, Canberra.  The venue offers step free access to wide entry door.

Inside the venue there are tables & chairs, fixed banquette seating, sofas, high tables with stools along with outdoor seating.  The cafe offers a full food menu and lunch buffet, in addition to the range of cakes, slices and treats from their partnership with local makers like HomeSlice Co. and La Sable.

Brew and Brew Cafe

The International Flag Display in the centre of the National Triangle is situated in Canberra's Parliamentary Zone & colourfully acknowledges the international presence in the National Capital.

The Display consists of 110 flags in total, representing 108 Missions that have a diplomatic presence as well as flags for the European Union and the United Nations, as well as flags of the European Union and the United Nations, identified by a plaque at the base of each flagpole. All national flags are positioned alphabetically, starting closest to the High Court of Australia. The first country listed is Afghanistan and the last, alphabetically speaking, is Zimbabwe.

Originally launched in 1999, by the Governor General, the Hon Sir William Deane, the display has become an important attraction for tourists and locals alike.

The flags are flown 24 hours a day and are lit at night. The display is accessed via paved level pathways with concrete benches dotted along the path.

Waters Edge is an accessible 1 Hat restaurant located in the middle of international flag presentation on the shore of Lake Burley, Griffin.

The venue offers step free entry with spacious lakeside dining area with ceiling-high windows, freestanding white tablecloth tables & chairs.  There are also the Dining Dome Experience which features exclusive individual domes with tables of 2, an extra large dome with other 5 x tables of 2 or corporate  dinner for 14.   All with views overlooking the water.

The Little Burley Market is located on the edge of Lake Burley Griffin, Queen Elizabeth Terrace, with its picturesque location the markets are on every Saturday 9am to 2pm, where you can taste and enjoy many stalls while  taking in the views

The markets are very accessible as they are set up on a wide cement road and pathways. Other areas of the markets are grassed but flat for easy access. 

If parking on Parkes Place West the path along Queen Elizabeth is flat with a kerb ramp. Best time to get accessible parking would be to get there at 9am . Toilets are close by that are Wheelchair accessible and have both right and handed rails for assisting. Other wheelchair bathrooms are accessible at Questacon.

The Little Burley Market

Arc is an accessible cafe by Canberra coffee roaster Redbrick with flat lead-in pathway to entry.  There is step free access to revolving door into the office foyer and round the curtain is the cafe.

A huge central rosy terrazzo bar overlooks the sleek dining room, which is decked out with a mix of fixed curvaceous lounges, banquette seating, communal benches, round tables. unfixed chairs and stools.

The menu offers breakfast, lunch with wines, a standout sweet cabinet and of course coffee with the full spectrum of espresso, batch brew and iced options available. 

There is plenty of accessible parking on Constitution Avenue, 7 Akuna Street and Allara Street.  Accessible toilets are just under 500m away at the Canberra Centre on Bunda St.

Access is via a permanent paved ramp to the double front glass swinging doors which open outwards to the restaurant with a small lip to overcome. Reception to the restaurant is right at the front door.
Seating is both indoors and outdoors (under umbrellas if needed).  Inside the restaurant, tables are spaced well apart with what looks like good access for wheelchairs.
Toilets which are shared with other facilities, are accessed back out the front doors and down the side of the restaurant along a wide flat laneway with dedicated accessible toilets - appeared clean and well maintained.

The Meat & Wine Co Canberra

Močan & Green Grout is an accessible venue originally designed to be a bike shop/cafe hybrid located on a sunny corner in the city’s New Acton precinct.  The ethical & eco-friendly café serve fair trade coffee, source produce from local farmers, & grow their herbs in a planter at the front door.

There is step free entry to the venue with plenty of outdoor moveable seating & tables with vines, pot plants & overflowing gardens of herbs & flowers that wrap around the cafe's facade.  There is more seating inside but without as much space to move around.

Wilsons car park at 33 Allara Street Car Park is an  undercover car park is located near Glebe Park, Casino Canberra, the Auditor General's Office & many other Canberra businesses & entertainment venues.

Ten designated accessible parking bays can be found in the large Questacon car park.

Canberra Contemporary Art Space is an accessible art venue located on Queen Elizabeth Terrace, Parkes with a second gallery in Manuka.

Constitution Place has 560 basement parking bays, 225 of which are for public access. The car park offers permit holders, hotel guests &casual visitors.

To enter the Constitution Place car park turn onto Theatre Lane from Constitution Avenue.  Turn right into the car park, & drive down the ramp.  Your licence plate will be read when you stop at the boom gate & pay at the boom gate when you exit.

There are three lifts from the car park: one exits to Lyric Lane, one exits to the 1 Constitution Avenue lobby & one exits to the A by Adina Hotel.

Located on Allara Street in Canberra CBD, Playing Fields Cafe is an accessible venue offering step free entry.  There are a couple of steps leading to the venue from the pavement, however disabled access is available.

Questacon - The National Science and Technology Centre is an accessible, interactive science communication facility in Canberra’s Parliamentary Zone which offers interactive & hands-on experiences in themed galleries.

The venue is open for timed sessions to inspire imaginations with the world of science & technology. Tickets must be pre-booked online for all visitors in your group, including babies and children. It is recommended to book early as tickets for each session are limited.

The minimum 2-hour session visit to Questacon (although some visitors will need longer) includes travel from the centre of an earthquake, to the heart of a beehive, all the way to outer space.  The Awesome Earth exhibition highlights the mighty power & stunning beauty of our planet & the universe. BEDST is a coffee shop & online store located at 20 Allara Street, Canberra which specialises in Nordic coffee roasts from Denmark, Norway, Sweden & Finland.

The Museum Cafe is an accessible cafe located inside the National Museum of Australia.

Such and Such is an accessible restaurant & wine bar with step free access via double doors.  There is a mixture of fixed & moveable seating & tables.  There is space to move around the venue however it would be limited when busy. 

The menu is share-friendly suiting any occassion from post-work drinks & snacks to a full dinner.  The drinks list is predominantly wine, with a mix of Australian & international along with a selection of non-alc drinks, including a house shandy made with peach, lime, Earl Grey tea & Heaps Normal XPA.

Such and Such Restaurant

Rebel Rebel, named after the David Bowie song is an accessible venue with step free access.  There are unfixed tables, chairs in the dining area & stools at the bar area.  There are also fixed banquette seating with chairs the other side, communal long tables with unfixed seating & stools at the higher tables. 

There is space between tables accessed via polished concrete floors, big windows & the crowning feature being a sloping wooden rafter-like installation that occupies the five-metre roof cavity.

The National Boer War Memorial can be found on Anzac Parade accessed via paved level pathway approach.

The memorial of  1.5 life size bronze horses and riders sculptures are dedicated to those Australians who volunteered and fought in the nation's first war.

The two large, copper clad walls emerge from the surrounding landscape to define the memorial space. The walls are aligned to the dominant parallel geometry of Anzac Parade to create a simple yet strong framing of the memorial.  

The different heights of the walls reflect their different functions; the higher back wall is a backdrop to the bronze sculptures, and the lower front wall frames the ceremonial forecourt while allowing interpretation to be read along its top. The faces of each wall will be a composite of several large, hand-forged copper sheets, joined with rivets and finished in a green copper patina.

Banana Leaf is an accessible relaxed place serving Sri Lankan dishes and basic bistro food located on Akuna Street, Canberra.

The venue offers step free entry via paved level pathway approach to glass entry doors.  Inside is relaxed & spacious with large floor to ceiling windows, freestanding tables, chairs, banquette seating, access to the bar counter & covered outdoor seating.  There is a wall dedicated to colourful Sri Lankan face mask artwork.
