The Aboriginal Tent Embassy is located on the lawns opposite Parliament House, Canberra & is a permanent protest occupation site as a focus for representing the political rights of Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islander people.

Strictly speaking this is not a tourist destination or an "embassy" in the normal sense of the term. Rather it is a place where you may go to learn and understand something of the story behind the "Embassy".

On 26 January 1972 four Indigenous men set up a beach umbrella on the lawns.  Describing the umbrella as the Aboriginal Embassy, the men were protesting the McMahon government’s approach to Indigenous land rights.

King George V Memorial is accessed via paved level pathway approach situated outside Old Parliament House.

Originally commissioned in 1936, King George V Memorial was not completed until 1953, due to the Second World War.

The work consists of a bronze statue of George V on one side of a granite pylon and a stone statue of Saint George on the other, to symbolise the leadership of George V through the First World War.

In 1953 it was located on the central land axis, directly across from Old Parliament House, but was moved to one side in 1968.

King George V Memorial

The National Rose Gardens is an accessible open area with level access pathways throughout.

The Rose Gardens were developed at a time when flight was still in its infancy, yet were planted to resemble two roses when viewed from above. The idea was put forward in 1928 but no work was undertaken until 1933, when the Minister for the Interior, John Perkins, planted the first shrub and announced that 2000 of the planned 8000 roses would be planted within a week.

The beds are located on either side of the central lawn in front of Old Parliament House and are open for all to enjoy.

National Rose Gardens

Questacon - The National Science and Technology Centre is an accessible, interactive science communication facility in Canberra’s Parliamentary Zone which offers interactive & hands-on experiences in themed galleries.

The venue is open for timed sessions to inspire imaginations with the world of science & technology. Tickets must be pre-booked online for all visitors in your group, including babies and children. It is recommended to book early as tickets for each session are limited.

The minimum 2-hour session visit to Questacon (although some visitors will need longer) includes travel from the centre of an earthquake, to the heart of a beehive, all the way to outer space.  The Awesome Earth exhibition highlights the mighty power & stunning beauty of our planet & the universe.  Q Lab offers a dynamic experimental environment along with Evening Experiences, sessions starting at 5 pm or 7 pm.

Questacon is committed to enabling Centre-wide disability access to their facilities & services with step free entry.  

Atomic Café at Questacon offers step free entry & easy access to the counter, freestanding tables & chairs & outside covered seating. Locally owned & operated by Atomic Catering they pride themselves on providing delicious products & excellent service in a relaxed environment.

Questacon - National Science and Technology Centre

The National Portrait Gallery is an accessible venue with the purpose to increase the understanding & appreciation of the Australian people –  identity, history, culture, creativity & diversity – through portraiture.

The Gallery offers step free entry via paved pathway approach located on King Edward Terrace in front of the High Court & next to National Gallery of Australia.  The Gallery provide free access services to all visitors with disability or access requirements. Some programs may require purchase of an exhibition ticket.  The Gallery site, the Collection, exhibitions & public programs are accessible to all.

Wheelchairs & walkers are available to use for free. Wheelchair access is available in the Gallery public spaces, with lift access from the underground to the public ground level.

Registered assistance & Guide Dogs are more than welcome in all spaces at the Gallery.

Accessible toilets are located on the ground level next to both the Cloak Room and Education Studio.

The Curatoreum/Portrait Gallery Store is a great place to enjoy the art of browsing with a treasure trove of the interesting & unusual, showcasing cutting edge designer jewellery, ceramics and textiles in addition to its extensive specialist art & design literary offering.

The Fresh Collective/Portrait Cafe offers a casual dining experience in a relaxed, light-filled space & on an outdoor terrace. Their food is fresh, homemade where possible, & features seasonal produce from local community-focused producers. They have a broad selection of pastries, cakes, snacks, freshly made salads & sandwiches complemented by a selection of coffee, soft drinks, wine & beer.

There is an Underground carpark accessed from Parkes Place.  Disability parking permit holders can validate their parking ticket for free at the Information Desk.

National Portrait Gallery

KOTO is an accessible Japanese restaurant located in The Lobby building in Canberra's King George Terrace.  KOTO is an intergral part of the national Triangle's new precinct, The lawns of The Lobby.  KOTO has been designed to protect the legacy of The Lobby building & continue the hospitality history in teh 50-year-old pavillion, including private dining.

KOTO offers step free entry to large entry doors into a spacious lobby via paved pathway approach.  Inside there are freestanding tables & chairs along with communal bar counter seating.  There is also outdoor seating.

Both accessible parking & accessible toilet are both onsite.

KOTO Restaurant

Rosa's is an accessible venue located at the idyllic Lawns of the Lobby serving pizza, paninis & drinks throughout the day, along with pastries & coffee for breakfast.

The venue features large open decked seating area with frestanding tables, chairs, high tables with stools, some umbrella shaded seating & access to the counter.  

Accessible toilets can be found at Parliament House, accessible parking in the large car park next door.

Rosa's

The Museum of Australia Democracy at Old Parliament House is an accessible venue with step-free access to every level of the museum.

The entrance to the museum is at the front of the building, up the central staircase & through the glass doors where reception is.  Courtesy wheelchairs & strollers are available from reception. Mobility scooters may be used in all areas of the museum.  As a heritage building, Old Parliament House has some small rooms & narrow spaces.  Some areas of House of Representatives & Senate chambers are not accessible to wheelchair users.

There is lift access, via the doors on either side of the staircase. These doors have signs marked accessible entry.

Accessible toilets are located on the Lower floor & on the Main floor. Baby changing facilities are located on the Lower floor & the Main floor.

Free accessible parking and accessible pick-up & drop-off are located at the front of the museum.

The High Court of Australia is an accessible venue with paved pathway approach to revolving doors.  The very spacious foyer allows for easy access & there are ramps to differnt levels.   The building is open to the public from 9.45am to 4.30pm Monday through Friday, except for public holidays, & Sunday from midday to 4.00pm.  Admission to the High Court building is free of charge.  

Visitors are welcome to visit the building during opening hours & a Court Guide is available in each courtroom providing information about the history, role, function & its architecture.  On sitting days, visitors are welcome to view the sitting Court.  Booked tours are also available.

Bookplate

National Library of Australia is an accessible library with step free access via the Library foyer, Main Reading Room & exhibition galleries through automatic doors.

All other areas on the Ground Floor, including the Bookshop & Bookplate café, are accessible through open doorways.  You can access the building by the ramp on the south side of the building.  There are 15 stone steps leading to the front entrance. The steps have handrails that are lit at night.

Inside there are lifts with control panels at convenient height for people using wheelchairs.  Wheelchairs are available from the Foyer Information Desk on the Ground Floor.  All reading rooms have wheelchair-accessible desks.  There is a wheelchair-accessible photocopier in the Main Reading Room.  Wheelchair-accessible toilets are available on the Ground Floor and Lower Ground Floor.

There are 8 accessible car spaces are available in the carpark off Parkes Place, on the south side of the building. Signage and road markers show these areas.

National Library of Australia

Canberra Contemporary Art Space is an accessible art venue located on Queen Elizabeth Terrace, Parkes with a second gallery in Manuka.

The gallery features step free entry via paved level pathway approach to the large open gallery with exhibitions by local, national & international artists.

 Open Tuesday to Saturday 11am - 5pm during exhibition dates. Entry is free.

Canberra Contemporary Art Space

The International Flag Display in the centre of the National Triangle is situated in Canberra's Parliamentary Zone & colourfully acknowledges the international presence in the National Capital.

The Display consists of 110 flags in total, representing 108 Missions that have a diplomatic presence as well as flags for the European Union and the United Nations, as well as flags of the European Union and the United Nations, identified by a plaque at the base of each flagpole. All national flags are positioned alphabetically, starting closest to the High Court of Australia. The first country listed is Afghanistan and the last, alphabetically speaking, is Zimbabwe.

Originally launched in 1999, by the Governor General, the Hon Sir William Deane, the display has become an important attraction for tourists and locals alike.

The flags are flown 24 hours a day and are lit at night. The display is accessed via paved level pathways with concrete benches dotted along the path.

The Little Burley Market is located on the edge of Lake Burley Griffin, Queen Elizabeth Terrace, with its picturesque location the markets are on every Saturday 9am to 2pm, where you can taste and enjoy many stalls while  taking in the views

The markets are very accessible as they are set up on a wide cement road and pathways. Other areas of the markets are grassed but flat for easy access. 

If parking on Parkes Place West the path along Queen Elizabeth is flat with a kerb ramp. Best time to get accessible parking would be to get there at 9am . Toilets are close by that are Wheelchair accessible and have both right and handed rails for assisting. Other wheelchair bathrooms are accessible at Questacon.

The Little Burley Market

Margot is a small accessible espresso & wine bar situated on the lakes edge of Lake Burley Griffin in Parkes right in the middle of the Parliamentary triangle. Flanked by national institutions their focus is on local produce, producers & celebrating the nation’s capital.

The National Gallery of Australia is an accessible gallery showing world-class exhibitions located on the shores of Canberra's Lake Burley Griffin.

The Gallery has an underground carpark with eight spaces reserved for visitors with disability. They are located close to lift access, which will take you to the main entrance of the Gallery. The entrance to the Gallery’s main underground carpark is down a ramp from Parkes Place. As you turn off King Edward Terrace into Parkes Place the entrance is immediately on your right. To enter the carpark, take a ticket and the boom gate will automatically lift.

There are also four reserved spaces for people with disability in the above-ground carpark off Bowen Drive, which is open to the public on weekends and public holidays. Access to the Gallery main entrance from this carpark is via the Australian Gardens and a ramp. The distance to the Gallery’s entrance is approximately 80m and the route is not protected from weather. To access these reserved parking spaces on Mon–Fri, use the intercom button to alert the Security team who will open the boom gate.

Free parking is available for both carparks when the boom gate ticket is presented at the concierge desk in the main foyer for validation at the end of your visit. You may be asked to present a disability parking permit to verify your use of this space.

The National Archives of Australia is an accessible building with wheelchair access through the main entrance on Kings Avenue or through the rear entrance facing the Western Carpark entrance.  The small car park at the National Archives' main entrance includes disability spots.  

Inside is spacious with room to move around the exhibitions & bench seating.  The collections trace events & decisions that have shaped the nation & the lives of Australians.

Cafe Constiution is an accsssible dining venue located in the heart of the National Archives.  Open for breakfast & lunch the culinary delights are supplied by local operators Tree Eighty3.  The cafe offers freestanding tables, chairs & easy access to the counter.  Accessible toilets can be found on the ground floor.

Welcome to the National Triangle , created by three avenues: Kings , Commonwealth & Constitution Avenue. Making it home to some very important cultural institutions. 

Open all year round with plenty to do: guided tours , art galleries, libraries, restaurants, with many events held throughout the year. So many cultural things to do and experience,  plenty to do with family and friend's.

The triangle is  very accessible with much of the terrain being paved and flat.  It also provides many toilets that are wheelchair friendly in many different locations like Treasury building, Commonwealth Place Western Kiosk, many opened during daylight hours no keys needed.

Parking is available from free accessible ones  like Commonwealth Park to many paid parking spots around the triangle.

National Triangle

The Sculpture Garden is situated between the National Gallery and the shores of Lake Burley Griffin.

The diagonal of the main pathway and the floor plan of the garden repeats the triangular architecture of the main building.  The accessible paved level pathways are available all around the gardens.

Underground paid parking is accessed via Parkes Place. Payment for parking is by card only, and is free from 5pm for after-hours events, or for those with a valid disability parking permit.

Accessible parking is available in the underground parking station. The eight reserved accessible spaces are close to lift access, bringing you to the main entry. Present your parking ticket and disability parking permit at the front desk in the main foyer at the end of your visit for validation.

Yogis Kitchen

The Centenary Trail is an accessible 145-kilometre self-guided, non-motorised loop trail for walkers, rollers & touring cyclists. It showcases urban & rural Canberra, as well as iconic sites & hidden treasures.  The trail is designed to be accessible for as many walkers & cyclists as possible. It follows management trails, walking tracks & shared paths. It is designed for low intensity use by all walkers, rollers & cyclists of moderate ability, with less than a 10% gradient overall.

The Centenary Trail is divided into daily sections. You can join or leave the trail in many locations. The entire trail can be explored as a 7-day walk, averaging just over 20 km per day or 3-day ride, averaging just over 45 km per day.

The trail can be explored into seven sections 1st being Parliament House to Watson, 2nd Watson to Northern Border Campsite, 3rd Northern Border Campsite to Hall Village, 4th Hall Village to Black Mountain, 5th Black Mountain to Stromlo Forest Park, 6th Stromlo Forest to Tuggeranong Town Centre, 7th Tuggeranong Town Centre to Parliament House.

Canberra Centenary Trail

Place Of Worship

Located in the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture this Labyrinth can be seen when walk past the buildings on the right (St Mark's Theological Centre) and the Giant Cross, and Firepit, and then about 20m beyond is the labyrinth.

Parking is available and the terrain is mixed so assistance would be ideal for wheelchairs users. 

No toilets available,  but you can visit Old Parliament  3 mins drive.

Chifley's Bar & Grill is an accessible restaurant located in the Hotel Kurrajoung, CBD Canberra.

The Beijing Gardens are located at Lotus Bay on Lake Burley Griffin, adjacent to Nara Park & Lennox Gardens. The gardens are a Canberra Centenary gift from the Beijing Municipal Government.

There are level stone lead-in pathway around the gardens however there are rock steps at some parts.  A team of Chinese artisans came from China to create the garden's sculptures & pavilion using traditional Chinese stone masonry & methods. They also created the paths, rock gardens & beautiful landscaping using the same methods.

There are BBQ areas at Lotus Bay reserve with scenic views, there is also another BBQ area closeby at Lennox Gardens.  There are also bench seats dotted around the gardens.

Accessible toilets can be found under 700m away at Old Parliament House Rose Garden & Australia Parliament House.  Accessible parking can be found closeby at the Hyatt Hotel (customers only) or further away at Car Park 10, 21 Queen Victoria Terrace.

Beijing Garden

There is one accessible parking bay in Lennox Park car park situated on Flynn Drive Yarralumla.

The parking bay is located next to the accessible toilets with paved level pathway approach.

Accessible toilets can be found in the Lennox Gardens car park off Flynn Drive.

There is an accessible parking bay next to the the toilet block access  via paved level pathway approach.
