Flynns BeachFlynns Beach
How to reach: Flynns Beach lies on Pacific Drive, about 5 km south of Port Macquarie’s town centre. By car, there is a public carpark off Pacific Drive adjacent to the Surf Life Saving Club. (Local guides note a marked accessible parking bay beside the surf club building.) Public buses (Busways) service Flynns Beach – for example, Route 322 runs hourly from Clarence St in Port Macquarie to Pacific Dr (opposite Leanda St) near Flynns Beach, taking ≈8 minrome2rio.com.
Outdoors and facilities: Flynns Beach Reserve is a long grassed park running along the shore. The reserve has 8 picnic tables, 1 BBQ, seating and shelter, and a large open area for picnics. A kiosk/canteen under the Surf Club serves light meals (shop/café hours vary), and public restrooms (with showers) are on-site. The ground around the reserve and carpark is largely flat and paved (Pacific Drive and the paths to the club), making the grassy area and picnic spots wheelchair-navigable. Note that beach access from the reserve is via a gently sloping timber ramp onto the sand (with handrails), which allows wheelchairs to reach the water’s edge. (Beach-wheelchair users report this ramp is the main access pointpmhc.nsw.gov.auportmacquarieinfo.com.au.)
Indoors: The main indoor facility is the Flynns Beach Surf Life Saving Club. Its clubhouse includes the kiosk/canteen and surf club offices. (Visitor access inside the clubhouse may be limited during non-patrol hours.) The clubhouse entrance is level with the reserve area. Inside, there are standard floors and wide doorways (as the venue hosts public events and functions). Adjoining the club is a small enclosed verandah and viewing area with stairs down to the sand – however, the ramp noted above provides level access outdoors. All outdoor areas (beach reserve, paths, ramp) have concrete or timber surfaces; grass areas have compacted earth suitable for wheelchairs.
Accessible toilets: Public toilet facilities (including an accessible stall) are located in the Surf Club/Reserve area. There are men’s and women’s toilets at Flynns Beach (open 24/7); these include showers. An accessible unisex toilet is provided alongside (a “disabled” sign). These restrooms are at ground level and reached via the carpark/pathway next to the surf club.
Extra accessibility features: Flynns Beach is patrolled during spring/summer, and the lifeguards offer Sandcruiser beach wheelchairs free of charge (with ID and waiver) to patrons when they are on dutypmhc.nsw.gov.auportmacquarieinfo.com.au. These specialized wheelchairs make it easier to get onto the sand and into the shallow water. If you plan to use one, request it from the lifeguards on duty at the surf club. Other features: shaded picnic shelter and bench seating in the reserve provide rest spots. Flynns Beach Reserve itself is part of the accessible Coastal Walk, so the path continues south toward Nobbys Beach and Shelly Beach along mostly level boardwalks.
