    Shelly Beach

    1. How to Reach Out

By Car / Drop-Off: A public car park sits right behind Shelly Beach Reserve, offering easy drop-off and close proximity to the sand. There is ample and convenient parking adjacent to the beach including few disabled spots.

By Public Transport: Buses (322, 323, 333, 334) stop on Pacific Drive near Shelly Beach Road—about a 4-minute walk to the beach entry. Moovit

Walking / Coastal Access: Shelly Beach is part of the Port Macquarie Coastal Walk (Stage: Flynns Beach to Shelly Beach—2.2 km), although this stretch includes moderate terrain with some steep or stepped sections. NSW National ParksArts and Health

    2. Indoors & Outdoors (Navigable Spaces)

Setting & Layout: Shelly Beach Reserve is a peaceful, natural picnic area backing the beach. It includes six undercover picnic tables, four BBQs, toilet facilities, outdoor showers, and a short nature walk up to Harry’s Lookout.

Play & Picnic Areas: Lush grassy areas with shade from trees—great for prams, wheelchairs, and casual seating near the beach. Sculptural artworks honoring local caretaker Harry Thomson offer visual interest across the reserve.

Beach Terrain: The beach has fine sand but includes rocky or shelly sections, particularly near headlands. During high tide, access across some areas may be tricky due to wet sand or pebble zones. There also no smooth pavement or ramp to access the sand. Visitors with wheelchairs must go through rocks and pebbles.

    3. Accessible Toilets

On-site: Shelly Beach Reserve includes toilet facilities, including wheelchair-accessible stalls. The stalls are fairly clean and there is enough space for wheelchair.

    4. Extra Accessibility Features

Scenic Walk & Viewpoint: A walking track leads from the reserve to Harry’s Lookout, a short nature path that offers coastal views. The initial access is flat, but terrain may become uneven further along the trail. Port Macquarie Hastings CouncilTripadvisor

Coastal Walk Integration: While accessible in part, the coastal walk approaching Shelly includes varied terrain. Shore access may require assistance during higher tides due to the steep pebble-sand transitions.
