Bar 1880 is a speakeasy-type bar located in the historic Bulletin Place building. Once home to the publishing house of one of the country’s longest-running magazines, Bulletin Magazine, which was published from 1880 all the way through to 2008.
Bar 1880 has two levels: downstairs, you’ll find the ‘Headline Bar’ with alfresco laneway seating on Bulletin Place. Upstairs is the ‘Press Room’ with lush bar, uneven floorboards that still carry the marks of the original printing press, painted deep blue walls, low lighting, sepia photographs & old newspaper clippings .
Inside there is a range of seating from high tables with stools, low tables with chairs, stools, banquette seating with outdoor tables & chairs.
Accessible toilets can be found at Custom House Library, 259 George Street, Nurses Walk & The Wintergarden.
The building is pretty old and it's not wheelchair accessible. The entrance is not level, creating an additional barrier for wheelchair users. Access to the upper floor is via stairs only, with no alternative step-free access available. The venue also does not have an accessible toilet.
