WHEELEASY WINS THE ACCESSIBLE TRAVEL FOUNDATION AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE 2021.

For the second time, the Accessible Travel Foundation issued global Awards of Excellence to entrepreneurs, start ups, businesses and organisations contributing to society at large in making travel easier for everyone, all around the world.

These awards are genuinely diverse in nature, with entries coming from every corner of the globe, including for example from Belgium, India, Martinique, and Spain; reflecting the fact that the desire for accessible travel is commonplace everywhere, with a clearly defined set of characteristics which are shared by many, regardless of culture or nationality.

As well as being asked to vote on different categories, the public were asked to vote for an overall winner. With an astonishing 38% of votes, WheelEasy cleaned up, receiving over twice as many votes as any other organisation.

The WheelEasy Foundation has created a web app that provides access information for people with mobility needs. Accessible entry (also called “disabled access”) includes ramps, wide pathways and entrances, toilets and other amenities.

WheelEasy is a sort of Tripadvisor for everything to do with access. A one-stop-shop that brings together all this information into one place.

There is no more researching beforehand — it’s designed for mobiles, so you can see what’s nearby you, and be spontaneous, just like everyone else.

Most importantly, the site grows by crowdsourcing the information, asking everyone to share what they find out about access and creating a community of people who share the same access needs. WheelEasy is finally democratising access information.

Anyone can add information about individual places, or accessible things to do at www.wheeleasy.org.

Max Burt, the founder of WheelEasy said “We are thrilled to be recognised in this way. We love the way that these awards are a celebration of what is becoming a global movement for better access for people with mobility needs. With Australian organisations occupying 3 of the top 4 positions, it illustrates how Australia is at the vanguard of this movement.
