    The Strand is Townsville's bustling beach foreshore with a relaxed yet energetic vibe. The two and a half kilometre long wide walkway offers wheelchair friendly access to the shoreline aswell as designated swimming spot, the Rock Pool. Beach matting can be found every Friday 10:30am to Saturday 3pm and special events on the Strand Beach (in front of Strand Park). The beaches are patrolled by life guards and stinger nets protect you from marine jellyfish. There is a pier with fish cleaning facilities and stainless steel barbecues together with shade huts and tables. The walkway follows the waterfront from the marina right through to the rock pool. There is the free Strand Water Park, an Olympic sized swimming pool and a large tidal rock pool. There are also a number of playgrounds, picnic spots, barbeques, exercise stations along the way. There are spectacular views over the Coral Sea across to Magnetic Island. The Palmer street precinct has several great dining choices in restaurants and cafes along the Strand and in nearby side streets like Gregory Street. Gregory Street has a huge choice of cafes and restaurants and is a popular place for breakfast or lunch. There is also a hotel and a tavern on the Strand. Accessible parking can be found on Leichhardt St, further paid parking at Denham Street Car Park & 71 Walker St. Accessible toilets can be found at Stand Water Park, City Lane & Flinders Pavilion.
