Last update at Nov 29, 2024 7:30 AM
There are five main venues within the Sydney Opera House. The two largest - The Concert Hall and The Joan Sutherland Theatre, are both on the first floor. The three smaller venues; The Drama Theatre, The Playhouse, and The Studio are on the ground floor.
The Concert Hall and The Joan Sutherland Theatre – these are both accessed via a large lift on the lower ground floor, which can be reached through a passageway under the main steps, or directly from the Western Concourse. After taking the lift up to the main foyer before a performance, ushers will appear to escort you through nonpublic areas of the building to your seats.
The Drama Theatre, The Playhouse, and The Studio are all accessed via the Western Concourse. The Drama Theatre is flat entrance. The Playhouse auditorium is up several steps on either side of the stage. There are platform stair lifts at each set of steps. Entry into The Studio is on the upper gallery level (with many different wheelchair seating options) and there is a lift down to the main audience area.
There are accessible toilet facilities available in the Western Theatres Foyer and Box Office Foyer, and also one backstage for the use of mobility impaired patrons of the two larger venues during intervals.
