Biang Biang is an accessible Chinese restaurant with stores in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Auckland serving fast food with a range of authentic food from Xi'an, China. 

One of the Melbourne branches is located on Swanson Street offering step free entry via paved level pathway approach to glass entry doors.  Inside is bright & colourful withnarrow corridor with tables & stool along one wall with further seating area accessed via steps.

Lifts are poorly signed and hard to find.
Poorly marked accessible toilet. Signage does not mention an accessible toilet but it is present.
Toilet is relatively easy to get to (on ground floor) but poorly signed so may be hard to locate.
There is no other accessibility equipment or changing tables. 
Procedures to use the toilet is via button operated door, clean and spacious inside.

Accessible shops, most shops are wheelchair accessible. Could not locate an accessible entrance for shops located in old clock tower (centre brick building in Melbourne Central).  Further parking can be found at Golden Square Multi-storey car park.  
Wheelchair access and ambulant access toilets, all genders, well maintained, automatic door via button for wheelchair accessible toilet. Ambulant access cubicles have common toilet door and lock.

Denmark House is an accessible Danish Smørrebrød Restaurant & Akvavit Bar.  There is 
a bit of incline between door to building and elevator. Then elevator to level 3 & no door upon entry.  
Car can pull up outside door. Street is One way so when parked outside venue passenger side of car is against curb. 	
A wheelchair fits easily around tables & seating which is not fixed to the floor.  No outside seating or toilet but accessible toilet can be found at 424 Lonsdale Street.  
There are 2 separate accessible parking spaces just up the street on other side. And a secure (brand) car park across the road at 200 Queens St.

Midcity Centre is an accessible venue with step free access to the venue with no doors.
Inside the lifts are poorly signed and difficult to find.
There is no accessible toilet located, but one can be found closeby at 225 Bourke Street
There is nearby street parking & accessible parking at the multi-storey at 180 Russell Street & Russell Place Car Park.  



Midcity Centre

Access ia via a ramp located to the left hand side of the front steps entrance, no door & is signposted.   	
Access within the state library is well signposted.
There is accessible cafe & shop onsite, along with a wheelchair accessible toilet which uses a typical cubicle handle and lock.

The theatre is located on Collins Street in the City of Melbourne and the streets around the theatre are fairly steep.  If you are using a manual wheelchair it’s fairly hard work pushing yourself up to the theatre from the traffic light. If you are strong enough you will be fine but it’s still fairly challenging to get around on these streets in this area. No problem for power wheelchair users though.

 The theatre itself has a small step going into the building itself from Collins Street but there’s also a cut away area on the right side of the doors leading into the building from the street, so it’s step free access from the street. However, Collins Street is a fairly steep street to go along so it’s best to have a powered wheelchair to get around in the street unless you have someone else with you that can help you push your wheelchair up to the theatre otherwise if you have strong enough arms you could try doing it yourself but it’s directly opposite the Regent Theatre as well which is also steep to get around on too.

Once inside the theatre there’s a dedicated disabled bathroom to the side of the entrance and then to get access to the theatre itself there’s a slight slope going down to the seating areas and the best seats are available in the stalls area as the dress circle is only accessible via a flight of stairs which is the situation in most Melbourne theatres. The stalls area is accessible for everyone, and they can help you to your seat if you can transfer yourself and they’ll take your wheelchair back to the foyer until the intermission if there’s one during the show or they’ll bring it back to you at the end of the show.

The only downside of this theatre is that the building is located on a steep street which is Collins Street. You can be dropped off directly outside of the theatre and there’s parking available in the nearby streets but can’t remember if there’s any disabled parking available in the immediate area.

Liminal is an accessible venue with ramp and automatic door entrance from Collins St, lift access from Flinders Lane.

Accessible toilet, wheelchair access but with swing door.  The toilet is shared with other venues, within the lobby of the building.

Liminal

Kennys Bakery is an accessible venue with step-free front via street. Slight vertical incline to entry, automatic doors normally left open unless poor weather.
Table spacing fits a wheelchair with assistance, few seating (not fixed) tables are available. Mostly intended as takeaway dining, no outside seating, toilets or parking.  Accessible toilets can be found at Market Street & Collins Street, parking can also be found at Collins Street


Kenny's Bakery Café.

Unisex wheelchair access toilet. 
No other access features apart from automatic door.  Key needed after last train, after hours you will need to find a cleaner who will have keys.
Accessible parking can be found at Southgate Underground.





Accessible Toilet

Several accessible rooms. Mine was good. Slightly too much for furniture to navigate around, but generally spacious enough.

The doorway into the bath room was maybe too narrow for the widest wheelchairs. Otherwise the bath room was well laid out. The big bonus about this did not apply to me but to my wife. In the hundreds of hotel rooms we have stayed in together, she has always had to put up with only a shower. For the first time ever, we had a bath room with both!

Grand Hyatt Melbourne

Station access has ramps or flat though there are numerous stairs requiring detours to alternate access points.
Platform access, ramps to the platforms on the Elizabeth St end, lifts on the Swanston St end, but numerous stairs requiring detours to alternate access points.

Coffee Rush is an accessible venue with a step free entry & narrow manual doors (single) that are open when the cafe is operational. There are no side entrances, toilet onsite or outside tables.  Accessible parking can be found at Bourke Street & Little Bourke Street, toilets at Southern Cross Station

Network Public Bar & Pizzeria is an accessible venue with step free access. One entrance and one exit door. Doors are manual. A wheelchair may fit in some tables. There are tables and high stool benches. No steps to the entrance.  No accessible parking (only taxi zone).  Parking can be found at 717 Bourke Street & Siddeley Street

The Fairfax Studio is an intimate theatre in a classic modern style, presenting contemporary and experimental productions.
The access is straightforward with manual doors.
There is signage about accessible entry. There is also an elevator for each level. Level 3 gives you access to fairfax studio.
There is an accessible toilet at every level (which is well sign posted)
There is accessible (well sign poster) disabled car park at level 5.

Fairfax Studio

The Arts Centre is an accessible venue with straightforward entry. 
The doors are manual and there is enough signage about accessible entry. 
There is an elevator at each level.
Inside the main theatre there are designated wheelchair spaces.
There are accessible toilets at each level that are open to public (which is also well sign posted)
There is an accessible disabled car park on level 5.



Arts Centre Melbourne

We love this venue!

Parking is underneath and if the designated disabled area is full, the staff corden off more of the general car park in order to extend the disabled parking area.  

(Before COVID, one could pre-book a disabled parking spot and even pre-book valet parking so that the wheelchair user and carers could be dropped off right at the underground entrance to the venue. Wonderful!)

When booking seats, there is a dedicated number to call and staff have always been helpful in ensuring we book seats that meet our needs.  Companion Card is accepted.

All the staff onsite are helpful and respectful.  Almost always we have had a dedicated staff member to assist us to our seats.

The lifts are enormous so there is no problem with the whole group travelling together - wheelchair user, family and carer. 

This is how accessibility should be done!

The only drawback is that the disabled toilets are on the smaller side, but there is an MLAK facility 200m away at Hamer Hall.  (We haven't tried it.)

The Arts Centre Melbourne

The access is straightforward with manual doors.
There is signage about accessible entry.
There is also an elevator for each level. Level 3 gives you access to state theatre.
There is an accessible toilet at every level (which is well sign posted)
There is accessible (well sign posted) disabled car park at level 5.

State Theatre

Unisex toilet located in the Southern Cross train station.  Wheelchair and ambulant access, which is well maintained.
Features big space, handles, automatic door & 
no key is needed. 
Accessible parking can be found at 717 Bourke Street


There are accessible entrances via the corner streets  (Argyle Place North and Argyle Place South). There are steps though if you approach the park via Lygon St. There are public toilets available via the corner street on Argyle Place North.

Argyle Square

Royal Exhibition Building is an accessible venue with step-free access, no ramps & has lifts.  
Lifts are available to other levels but some floors may not be accessible.  The areas are spacious.  
There are accesible toilets at 271 Spring Street, parking at Melbourne Museum & 50 Lonsdale Street.

Most areas easy to get to, the best
terrain option being concrete pathways with grass area.

Lincoln Square

Lincoln square has a steep incline from Bouverie Street. Single accessible toilet located at the park on Bouverie Street. 
Concrete square on Swanston Street side has a water feature and seating. There are steps to access this part from most sides.

There is ramp access to the venue with no entry door, all signposted.
Table seating is very cramped for wheelchairs
with tables and benches and high stools. 
Seating fixed to the floor and there is no outside seating.  		
Accessible toilet is ambulant access and not shared with other venues.  
Accessible parking nearby on B1 and B2.

Atrium Bar

IMAX Melbourne is an accessible venue with  step free access to automatic doors & accessible signs. 
The venue provides wheelchairs.  There is an accessible cafe and shop. Areas arevery spacious and can fit wheelchairs easily.   There is accessible toilets onsite & accessible parking nearby.

Parking is perpendicular, no pavement.
No drop curb, entrance is smooth and easy access.

There is sufficient space for a wheelchair to move alongside and the elevator is right next to disabled parking spots.
There are 2 elevators and direct access to Lygon Street foot path on ground floor,  no awkward obstacles.
Accessible toilets are nearby at Argyle Place.




Off-street accessible parking

Off Street Disabled Parking just outside 16 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy.

Ziyka does not have a step-free front or other way in to a manual door.
A wheelchair fits easily around the tables, seating is not fixed to the floor & there is outside seating.  
Accessible toilets can be found Argyle Place, parking nearby, further down the street & Lygon Street Car Park.  

Ziyka Restaurant

We had a mixed experience when we visited the Melbourne Museum earlier this year.  I can only conditionally recommend it as an accessible venue, which is very disappointing.

There is very good disabled parking underneath the building, and the lift to travel to the museum is a reasonable size.

However, the lift within the museum is tiny and not appropriate for a large wheelchair - especially if a carer is needed to accompany the wheelchair user.

This means that a group cannot easily move through the museum together.

When we asked staff for another way to access the upper level, we were directed to a ramp that lead to a wet and cold outdoor garden.  We discovered an indoor ramp by ourselves later in our visit, so *thumbs down* for staff being helpful.

The disabled toilets that we found were ludicrously small.  I would not call them accessible.  There may have been other accessible toilets around but see the point about the unhelpful staff.  Additional accessible toilets can be found at Argyle Place

Finally, some spaces were set up so that it was very difficult to navigate the wheelchair - and we almost ran over a small child as a result!

It was a very disappointing outing.



Actual Melbourne Museum

Melbourne Museum is an accessible venue with step-free access & lifts are available.
There are accesible toilets onsite. 
Area is spacious and accessible, including shops. 
Accessible car parks are available.

The Catfish

University Square

Most areas Of University Sqaure are not easily accessible, there are  steps / a retainer surrounding the park to get to the lawn. There is step free access via the north most part of the park. Be conscious however there is currently restricted access to the park from the north side due to the construction of Parkville station at November 2022.
Terrain best option: mix of grass and concrete. There is seating in the middle of the park on concrete. 
Inclines: the park is on a slight incline heading north. 

Accessible toilet: toilets are nearby at the FBE building at university of Melbourne. They are wheelchair accessible, unisex, manual door. 
Parking can be found at Parkville Campus - South Lawn Car Park



University Square

The venue has steps in front entrance, and accessible entrance in the back via the ally on the right of the building. Entry doors are manual

Cairo Nights Restaurant & Bar

Good Measure is an accessible venue with plenty of space via the door, however the door is manual, but remains wide open when the cafe is open. There is ample space and low tables for wheelchairs. There are no accessible toilets and no outside seating available.  
Accessible toilets can be found at Argyle Place, parking at Lygon Street Underground Car Park.

Marion Wine Bar is an accessible venue via the step free entry to the manual front door. There is outside seating available too. Looks spacious on the inside and a wheel chair can fit with moveable tables & chairs. 
 There are also high stools & bar.  There is parking off street but no specific spots for accessible parking. Accessible parking can be found at the underground care park at the Melbourne Museum & ACU multi-storey

Marion Wine Bar

Breizoz is an inaccessible French creperie with step access, no portable ramp either to manual doors.  
A wheelchair can fit between tables & there is outdoor seating.
There are no accessible toilets but ones can be found at Fitzroy Library.  
Thereis general parking along the streets, accessible spots can be found on Victoria Parade.

The Workers Club is a wheelchair-accessible venue with step-free access via a side entrance on Gertrude St. This entrance has a manual door.

The majority of the venue is accessible, including the front bar, the band room and the beer garden.

A wheelchair can fit between tables. There is a mixture of low tables and benches with high stools both in the front bar and the beer garden. There is also seating out the front of the venue on both Brunswick St and Gertrude St.

There is an accessible gender neutral toilet with ramp and wheelchair cubicle located at the back of the venue, next to the beer garden entrance.

There is general parking along the streets with accessible parking spots on Victoria Parade.

The Workers Club

The venue is inaccessible with step entry and there is one entrance only to a manual/heavy door.  	
There are tables and chairs considered low & not fixed to the floor, spacing is cramped, no outside seating.		
No accessible toilet onsite as located upstairs and there is no lift. There is a public toilet across street at Argyle Square.

Carte Crpes is an accessible venue with step-free front, no door & paved pathway to counter.

Mint & Co is accessible with no steps at the entrance to manual door but will require assistance to get on the foot path.

Museo Italiano is an accessible permanent exhibition which draws on and displays the records, images and objects from CO.AS.IT.'s Italian Historical Society.
There is step free entrance, permanent ramp to
automatic doors which is signposted.   
There are venue wheelchairs to use & an accessible shop.  	
Accessible toilet onsite, wheelchair access/ambulant access, and the toilet has a shower.
Accessible parking nearby on the street, further parking can be found at 215 Elgin Street.  


Museo Italiano

An accessible Vietnamese restaurant at The University of Melbourne with step-free access through automatic sliding doors. 
There is spacious outdoor seating and potentially crowded indoor seating. There are various table types including benches and high stools. Parking can be found on the University grounds.  Accessible toilets are located on every level in the North wing and levels B1, GF, L1 and L2 in the Western wing. A male and female ambulant toilets are provided on every level in the North wing and on GF and L2 in the Western wing.

Roll'd Parkville

There is step free access to the venue to manual swinging doors & there is a sign for accessible access.
A wheelchair cannot fit between tables &
there are limited tables and mainly benches/high stools but there is outside seating available.  Accessible toilets can be found at Peel Street, 112 Smith Street.

Parking off street on Napier St just outside 95 Napier St, access passenger side.

DOC is a semi-accessible pizza restaurant with step at the front entrance, no side entrance or ramp.  However, there is outside seating & a wheelchair fits with assistance.
Accessible toilets can be found at Argyle Place, parking at 215 Elgin Street along with street parking.  			


DOC Pizza & Mozzarella Bar - Carlton

This is a parallel parking spot, pavement is driver side, no drop curb.
There is smal space for a wheelchair to move alongside & awkward obstacles include signs, pay station, drain.
