Access & Entry

The building has a step-free main entry with wide glass doors. The external approach includes a paved footpath with a firm surface, although sections with bollards and gated entry points may slightly restrict direct movement and require careful navigation.

Entry into the building is level, with no steps or significant barriers at the main doors.

Internal Movement

Internal circulation areas are wide and open, allowing comfortable wheelchair movement. Flooring transitions from smooth hard surfaces (stone/tile) at entry and open areas to low-pile carpet in corridors and seating spaces, which appears firm and manageable.

Pathways are generally clear, with minimal obstructions. Signage is visible and provides directions to key areas such as toilets, café, and function rooms. Lighting is consistent and supports visibility throughout.

Chamber / Seating Area

The main chamber includes tiered seating arranged across multiple levels. Access to these seating areas is via stairs, with no visible ramp or lift access to the elevated sections.

The central floor area at the front is flat and open, allowing level access and some space for wheelchair positioning. However, access to the majority of seating areas is restricted due to the stepped layout.

Toilets (Accessible)

An accessible toilet is available within the building and is clearly signposted. Access is step-free, with a wide automatic sliding door operated by a push button.

Inside, there is adequate space for wheelchair manoeuvring. The toilet is fitted with grab rails on both sides and a backrest. The sink is positioned within reach from a seated position, and fixtures such as the mirror, soap dispenser and hand-drying facilities are placed at an accessible height. The overall layout supports independent use.

Toilets (Standard / Ambulant)

Additional toilets are available, including ambulant cubicles with grab rails. These have narrower doorways and limited internal space, making them unsuitable for wheelchair users.

Café Area

The café area has a wide entry and an open seating layout with movable chairs. Flooring is low-pile carpet, firm and navigable. Tables appear to provide usable access for wheelchair users, although clearance may vary. The service counter is standard height and may be slightly high for seated users.

• Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

• Weekends & Public Holidays: Closed (except for pre-booked tours or special events)

Public galleries (when Parliament is sitting) may have slightly different access times depending on session schedules.
