Mentone Racecourse Reserve sits on the spot of the former horse racing course which operated from 1888 to 1948. The racecourse continued as a training ground until 1972 when the area was sold as a housing estate.
The playground has honoured the horse racing theme with decorated images of racehorses. horse jumps, jockey & life-size horse statues & ride on rocking horse springers overlooking the water. The playground also features a wooden maze, flying fox, merry-go-round, climbing net, slides, swings & a sandpit. There is also a half court basketball, AFL & soccer posts, & a tennis rebound wall.
At the centrepiece of the park is an ornamental lake with water fountains, home to ducks & water birds surrounded by accessible walking trails & bridges & landscaped open spaces.
There are multiple BBQs, sheltered & non sheltered seating, accessible toilets, baby changing facilities & free parking available at the reserve.
