The National Arboretum near Canberra features the Events Terrace Loop, a 0.6km loop trail taking an average of 9 minutes to complete.

This short accessible path begins & ends from the main car park, which can be reached directly from the Tuggeranong Parkway.  The trail is a mix of sealed & gravel path, intentionally wheelchair friendly.  The path takes you around the southern side of the village Centre, through a range of gardens including the National Bonsai Collection.    Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.  

Accessible toilets can be found at the Village Centre which is modern & functional with grab rails & under sink roll in.  Further accessible toilets can be found at the children's playground.  The playground also features accessible swings, a cafe & restaurant can be found closeby.

There are 11 disabled car parks near the entrance & 3 more outside the Margaret Whitlam Pavilion Function Centre.  Three wheelchairs are available for hire

Events Terrace Loop

There are multiple designated parking bays across the National Arboretum site.

The Margaret Whitham Pavilion features 4 designated mobility parking spaces .  Access is adjacent to the Pavilion via a level, gravel path. The carpark and path are exposed to weather, the Pavilion is sheltered for a companion drop-off.

There is also a  300 metre sealed and level path between the Village Centre and the Pavilion. This path is fully exposed to weather.

Accessible bathrooms can be found onsite.

Off-street accessible parking

There are multiple designated mobility parking spaces across the National Arboretum site.

At the Village Centre and surrounds there are 23 designated mobility spaces at the Vistors main car park.

A 70 metre sealed ramp provides access from the carpark to Visitors Centre, The Ginger Group Cafe, The Curatoreum Gift Shop, observation decks, Pod Playground and National Bonsai and Penjing Collection. 

This entrance ramp is known as ‘The Cutting’. There is a concrete bench seat at the top of the cutting, adjacent to the carpark, for companion drop-off. There is another concrete bench seat midway down The Cutting. This path is semi-sheltered from wind but exposed to sun and rain.

Accessible bays can be found at Dairy Farmers Hill Lookout & Wide Brown Lane Lookout. 

The Dairy Farmers Hill features one desginated bay with a 200 metre (return) level and sealed pathway providing access to the lookout and sculptures. The parking, path and lookout are exposed to all elements of weather. 

There is one desginated bay at Himalayan Cedars Carpark with a 200 metre (return) level and sealed pathway providing access to the lookout and Wide Brown Land Sculpture. The parking, path and lookout are exposed to all elements of weather.

Accessible bahtrooms can be found onsite.

Dairy Farmers Lookout is located within the National Arboretum, Canberra.  The lookout offers a spectacular 360o view over Canberra & beyond,

The Arboretum’s iconic eagle sculpture, Nest III & the Amillary Sphere Sundial sits at the top of Dairy Farmers Hill.  There is a circular platform with engraved handrails & wooden bench seats, wheelchair-accessible via a short gravel path.

There is limited wheelchair car parking available, accessssible toilets are located closeby at Village Centre along with Cafe at the Arboretum, Ginger Restaurant & The Curatoreum Shop 

Dairy Farmers Hill Lookout

Weston Park is a popular 40 hectare area in the heart of Canberra just 10 minutes from the CBD, right on Lake Burley Griffin at Yarralumla. With shared walking & cycling paths there is easy rolling accessibility around the park. 

The Yarralumla Play Station is a recreation area within the park offering a variety of activities including the Weston Park Miniature Railway with train rides on Bluebell, the blue miniature train that goes around the property & two mini golf courses. 

The courses include is the Lake Walter Mini Golf Course which is  36 holes themed on miniatures of Canberra's iconic landmarks.  There are a couple of 18 hole courses including the Lake Walter Links, a slightly trick course & the Lake Walter Putt Putt aimed at families.  

The Station Stop Cafe is located within the Play Station & resembles dining carriages in a train with wooden booths as well as smaller picnic tables for the kids. There are also board games in the corner, to keep the kids busy while you wait.

There is also the YPS Lolly Shoppe, Mini Farm Friends full of animals along with wild kangaroos throughout the park.  Weston Dog Park offering off-leash area is located just before the entrance to the parkland.  The Heritage Nursery is located at the entrance, opposite the Yarralumla Gallery and Oaks Brasserie.

The Oaks Brasserie  is popular with dog walkers with the Weston Park nearby & has a paved courtyard with seating & tables.  The Yarralumla Gallery has 3 rooms in the historical cottage showcasing different works.  Both has step free entry.

Free BBQ areas are located all around the park including the popular one located next to Weston Park Playground undercover tables with benches. It is a scenic venue, with Telstra Tower a stunning backdrop.

Weston Park Playground is located opposite the Play Station & features water play in the main area of the park, swings, giant spider web climbing frame, sand digger in a sand pit, climbing equipment, toilets & picnic area with BBQs with lead-in pathways.

The park is also home to the SievX Memorial which remembers the 146 children, 142 women and 65 men who died on the refugee boat SievX, in waters off the coast of Christmas Island in October 2001.  This was politically embarrassing for John Howard, & he subsequently refused permission for a memorial to be erected on the Federal side of Lake Burley Griffin, so the organisers of the memorial got permission from the ACT government. What stands now is a representation of the 353 dead - short for children & tall for adults - in the form of painted poles, decorated by one of 300 schools or community groups from around Australia.  In 2005, over 2000 Canberrans volunteered to help raise the poles in the curved pattern they are in today, representing water and the shape of a boat.

The National Zoo & Aquarium is privately owned and Australia's only combined Zoo and Aquarium.  Situated on around 25 hectares of land just five minutes from the centre of Canberra.

Most of the National Zoo is accessible by wheelchair. The site does include some steep inclines however if you follow the designated adventure trail these areas will be avoided.  There are several mobility scooters available for hire. Advanced bookings are encouraged as there are limited units available on any given day. There is a wide variety of both native & exotic animals, as well as the largest inland saltwater tank in Australia. There are a number accessible picnic areas, complimentary BBQ facilities along with Jungle Vines Cafe, Rhino Bistro, Adentureland Playground, Gift Shop, & Animal Encounters where you get the opportunity to get up close & personal with some of the worlds most amazing creatures.

There are a number of disabled car parking spaces available for use. These are located at the main entrance and near the secondary keyhole entrance.  Parking is free for all zoo and Jamala visitors.

Accessible toilets can be found at the park along with baby change room.

A full viewing of the zoo is a decent walk….easy for some, not so easy for others…

If your mobility isn’t great or you have toddlers who would struggle with the distance, you can split up your visit. You can do one section one day and return any time in the next 2 weeks to see the other section. Parking is generally available near the start of both sections.

National Zoo & Aquarium

The Weston Park Peninsula Loop is a 4.2km loop trail in the popular Weston Park located on a peninsula on the western side of Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra.

Generally considered an easy route, the wide flat pathway allows for easy rolling & takes an average of just under 60 minutes to complete.

The cycle track runs throughout the park & also features a large scale adventure playground including water play, picnic tables, benches, BBQs & accessible public toilets at the playground.

The Yarralumla Play Station offers a minature railway & train, mini golf & cafe.  There is also a off-leash dog park, wild kangeroos, the Yarralumla Gallery, Oaks Brasserie, Heritage Nursery & SievX Memorial.

There is plenty of regular & alloacated disabled spots at Weston Park.

Weston Park Peninsula Loop

"The 100 year old Himalayan cedars are one of the oldest planted forests in Canberra. 

The trees provide  shade around the picnic and bbq area, and the lookout area.

Free parking  is available but be aware its limited ,  the forest is a short walk and has easy wheelchair-accessibility along a sealed path from the Himalayan cedar car park.

From the car park, it is also an easy stroll to the 'Wide Brown Land' sculpture, at 35m long and 3m high! Unfortunately no paths straight to the sculpture, maybe with some assistance.  

Accessible self cleaning toilet is available.

Please bring rubbish bags, as they don't provide any.
