    About this place

The Australian National Botanic Gardens in the heart of Canberra, ACT features the Botanic Gardens Main Path Walk. The 1.4km loop trail is generally considered an easy route, suitable for wheelchairs, strollers & electric scooters, taking an average of around 17 minutes to complete.

This looped path begins from the main parking area of the garden (where the Black Mountain Summit Walk also begins) & explores the highlights of the Gardens.

The trail itself is flat, easy grade, paved boardwalk that has no steps & all slopes meet Australian standards for wheelchair access. The trail is popular for bird watching, hiking & walking with beautiful views, widflowers & wildlife. There is a wooden lookout along the walk, however the elevated part is accessed via a rope & wooden ladder.

There are many small side trails to explore that take you to places like the arid Red Centre Garden & Rock Garden, however these are not 100% wheelchair or stroller friendly.

Wheelchair & electric scooters are available from the Visitor Centre free of charge between 9.30am-4.30pm daily. Bookings are recommended as numbers are limited, contact the Visitor Centre in person or call 02 6250 9540.

There are 4 disabled access car parking in the top northern end of the main car park, close to the Visitor Centre & Cafe in the Gardens, & 3 located at the rear of the Crosbie-Morrison Building.

Disabled access toilets are located in the Administration Building Foyer directly opposite the entrance to the Visitor Centre & the Crosbie Morrison Building.

The Pollen Cafe & Restaurant is also located at the Botanic Gardens along with The Display Glasshouse, Visitor Centre & Bookshop.
