The Beacham

Simon Says Juice in Darlinghurst is a renowned café celebrated for its fresh juices and healthy offerings.

They’ve recently given the place a fun makeover, making the ground level way more accessible and welcoming. The door is wider, so getting in with your mobility device is a breeze! Just a heads-up: the seating has booth tables, so your device might have to hang out at the end of the booth in the middle of the venue, which could make it tricky for others to get by. But we think it’ll work out just fine! They’ve added a couple of small tables in front of the counter facing the street, making it easy to have a quick stop while waiting for the bus or passing by.

One major inconvenience is the lack of restrooms, which means you’ll need to head to the nearest local pub, The Beacham (10 meters), which has accessible toilets. However, keep in mind that it may not open very early in the morning if you’re an early bird.

Their famous juices are a hit all around Sydney, and the new menu includes a variety of smoothies and bowls, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients and a sustainable twist.

The University of Notre Dame has clear accessibility signage throughout the campus. While the Oxford Street entrance is not accessible, the Victoria Street entrance offers step-free access, with signage at both points directing visitors accordingly. Multiple lifts are available, and the first building to the left includes an accessible toilet and nearby accessible parking, both clearly signposted. A designated Disability and Equity Support space is located further into the campus on the right, with clear signage, and there is plenty of outdoor seating across the campus.

South Dowling Sandwiches in Darlinghurst is a go-to spot for anyone craving delicious, hearty sandwiches made with fresh ingredients. The vibe is lively, the venue is always crowded during lunch time. the perfect spot to grab and go if you are around or in your lunch break.

The sandwich shop offers a few small picnic tables for those who can’t wait and want to sit and enjoy their food on the spot. Keep in mind that the venue is quite popular, which may lead to some waiting and socializing in the corners. However, we bet people will make it easy for you to pass through.

One thing to note is that the entrance has a step, which makes it a bit tricky for those using mobility devices to get in. But don’t let that stop you! The area has good parking and accessible roads, but no accessible parking in particular. It’s still easy to get to the shop thanks to the curb ramp in front of the venue in the corner of the street. The cinema is fully accessible, with accessible seating available with no steps or other barriers from the entrance. These seats and spaces are reserved for customers who have a genuine need and are only released by cinema staff in person at the cinema or over the phone.
For hard of hearing or visually impaired the auditoriums are setup with the Fidelio headset & neck loop options.  These receivers are available at the box office when tickets are purchased.  The neck loop option works in conjunction with the hearing aid + the headset has adjustable volume to boost the dialogue levels.

Palace Verona

Palace Cinema is an accessible venue with  step-free entrance on side.  Entry doors are left open.  Access is signposted inside.
Designated wheelchair positions are available inside the cinema.

Tento is tucked away in a hidden spot at 3/8 Hill Street, Surry Hills. To access the venue, you’ll need to ascend a few steps, but the good news is that a lift chair is available for assistance. Please call the venue in advance to ensure they can accommodate your arrival, as the lift chair is the only way to access the restaurant. Once you’ve used the lift chair, the pathway to the venue is flat.

The café offers a spacious outdoor seating area in front of the main kiosk and counter, as well as an indoor dining space. The indoor area is easily accessible, with a wide and open threshold, allowing you to choose between the terrace and the indoors. The friendly staff are always ready to assist and ensure a comfortable experience at Tento.

TenTo

Darlinghurst Courthouse was constructed in 1835-1845 in response to overcrowding issues at King Street Courts.  It was the first purpose-built criminal court in the colony and has been used ever since as a courthouse. The District Court took up residence in the early 1900s, and a new wing to the courthouse was added. In the 1920s, the newly founded High Court moved in, and additional courts were built. Today, Darlinghurst Courts constitute seven courtrooms and hears Supreme Court and District Court matters.

Access to the Courthouse is limited for those with mobility issues  due to it being a historical budiling. Entry is via Oxford Street and a ramp will be deployed to provide access to the venue and an accessible bathroom with be available on-site during the Sydney Festival.

Additional accessible toilets can be found under 1kms away at Wallamulla Park, Australian Museum & Kippax Anzac Parade. 

Darlinghurst Courthouse

There’s an embedded ramp connecting the footpath to the bakery, ensuring easy access to the counter, which is at a slightly higher level. Despite the height of the counter, ordering is hassle-free, and the friendly staff are always ready to help you.

The bakery has limited space, and while you can see the bakers working on your fresh goods inside, the outdoor area where the bread is displayed and where customers place takeaway orders only allows for ordering and taking away their incredible local products. Public toilets are not provided or available.

Small coffee shop on the corner of comber and Ice Street. These is easy access with an easy roll on ramp to access the cafe. The setup of the cafe is very spacious allowing people to both sit inside or outside freely.  .

Ada's Affair

The Oxford Hotel has a second entrance past the outdoor seating that is accessible via a ramp, as the main entrance includes a small set of stairs. The accessible entrance leads directly into the games room on the left and the main bar area to the right. This bar area has plenty of seating and space between tables, however they are higher tables with taller seats. Lower tables and seating is available in the garden further into the bar area. An accessible toilet is located within the games room. While signage indicating accessible features is limited, staff are friendly and happy to assist! There is also plenty of outdoor seating available along the footpath at the front of the venue.

They have booth tables and small tables inside that can definitely accommodate for wheelchair users too.

This Indian food place is a local spot  popular in peak  hours.

They provide small tables in the outside  for those with  mobility needs. it should be very easy to accommodate. On arrival you can let the staff know that you are here and they will help you ordering and enjoying a nice experience. 
 

The main entrance fresh hole it’s quite narrow and it presents one step that might be challenging for some.  If you can make it up the step, it should be easy for you to navigate the venue despite being moderately spacious. 

The toilet area inside the venue is at the very back and definitely not accessible since you will have to go up five steps. 
 

If you make it to the inside and buy through the counter area which will be the narrowest space you can encounter, then you’ll find several small tables where you can sit with any mobility device.

North Indian Cuisine

This local Indian take away place is in the middle of Oxford Street.

They provide one table in the outside in case you have difficulty becoming the one step at the very entrance.

The venue is small but if you can make it inside their dishes look amazing,  you can always take away or eat in any of the tables inside,  are sure they can put some chairs aside and accommodate for your arrival.

 They do not have toilets for the public but 15 minutes away there is an accessible hotel.

Fortuna Drink And Eat

The East Sydney Community and Arts Centre has two entrances, both offering step-free access via lifts. Clear accessibility signage is present throughout the venue. The lower level features ambulant-accessible toilets, a short distance from the building’s second entrance. These facilities are well signposted, making the space easy to navigate for visitors!

Coffee shop on corner of boundary and Glen view street. To access the coffee shop, you need to step over an even step which could be difficult for somebody with accessibility issues. No accessible bathrooms however relative spacious setup.

The Clock in Surry Hills is a classic Aussie pub with a big, welcoming vibe right in the heart of Surry Hills, on a bustling road that comes alive on weekend evenings. With plenty of space to move around, getting in and out is a breeze, thanks to the chair lift at the entrance and an internal lift that reaches every level. The Clock is fully accessible, making it easy to enjoy your time here without any worries. The friendly staff, quick ordering, and helpful security team ensure that everyone feels at ease.

Inside, the spacious layout keeps things comfortable, and for those who need accessible facilities, there’s a dedicated toilet on the courtyard level that’s easy to reach on the lower floor right next to the lifts.  The ground level is where most events are run and where you can easily stroll around and be part of the interactive games and shows. On the mid level, there is a whiskey bar with an open space, very cost and accessible by the lift. On the top level, you can easily move around hallways and decide where to sit, if inside or in the balcony. Bear in mind that the balcony presents a small step and that is quite narrow for a wheelchair.

The Clock is all about making everyone feel right at home, so whether you’re catching up with friends or simply soaking in the atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy yourself!

When it comes to accessibility, Nour is quite accommodating. It has big windows connecting the outside dinning tables with the inside. The tables outside are high tables with high chairs so it might be worth it to enter the venue.

The entrance has a step, however the venue owns a portable ramp that can be deployed and used when you arrive. 

The accessible entrance is right next door! Let the staff know you are coming and they will guide you to the right hand side of the main entry allowing easy access for those with mobility needs. Inside, the layout is mostly open, with ample space between tables to navigate comfortably. While Nour doesn't have dedicated accessible toilets, the staff is known to be helpful and attentive, and they’re always ready to assist with any special requests to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone. For specific needs, it’s best to call ahead to confirm arrangements.

Henrietta in Surry Hills, Sydney, is a vibrant charcoal chicken restaurant known for its delicious Middle Eastern-inspired flavors and welcoming atmosphere. Located on Crown Street, it offers a lively dining experience with both indoor and outdoor seating options.

The venue is highly accessible, featuring a level entryway with white thresholds directly from the footpath of Crown Street. Once inside, there are booth tables outside that can easily accommodate any mobility device. The restaurant is spacious, making it easy to navigate, with wide gaps between tables for comfortable movement. The friendly staff are always happy to assist upon arrival.

To access the toilet, continue straight from the entrance and turn right, there is enough space for a wheelchair to enter. While the venue has a designated accessible toilet, it is often used for other purposes. However, if you notify them in advance, they can make arrangements to ensure accessibility for you.

Yes, you can find accessible parking about 200 meters away, in front of the park on the same footpath as the Surry Hills Library. There is enough space for one car, or possibly two small ones. The street is well connected to ramps, making Henrietta a fully accessible venue.

Henrietta Charcoal Chicken Surry Hills

The cinema is fully accessible, with accessible seating available with no steps or other barriers from the entrance. These seats and spaces are reserved for customers who have a genuine need and are only released by cinema staff in person at the cinema or over the phone.
For hard of hearing or visually impaired the auditoriums are setup with the Fidelio headset & neck loop options.  These receivers are available at the box office when tickets are purchased.  The neck loop option works in conjunction with the hearing aid + the headset has adjustable volume to boost the dialogue levels.


Palace Chauvel Cinema

169 Darlinghurst is a floral café located on a busy corner, offering a welcoming atmosphere. The venue is not step-free; it has two small steps to access the terrace, and there are three additional steps at the entryway, located a bit further on the terrace. The space is limited. These factors may pose difficulties for guests with mobility impairments, making accessibility a bit harder for some.

169 Darlinghurst

The venue is wheelchair accessible with lifts to the lower ground floor where we are located via the lobby of Paramount House Hotel. Access to the cinema is via small ramps. 
In the cinema, there are reserved accessible seating available towards the back of the room, only available to be booked through one of the staff members. 

Golden Age Cinema & Bar

The Imperial Hotel is a semi-accessible venue with one step at front, wheelchair accessible access around the side on Underwood St.  
Entry doors are swinging at front but automatic at side & access is signposted.  
A wheelchair fits around the tables & non-fixed seating.  There is outside seating & accessible toilet onsite. 
Accessible parking can be found nearby on the street along with further underground parking at The Gordon.   

Imperial Hotel Paddington

Four Ate Five is a semi-accessible cafe with one step to get into restaurant, outdoor seating available on the side of the road/outside the restaurant.  There is one mid-heavy non-automatic, swinging door to entry.
Table spacing is non accessible inside the restaurant, one step in and 5 more steps to access bathroom. Wheelchair fits underneath chairs outside the restaurant. 
Non wheelchair accessible toilet, 6 steps from entry to toilet with tight spaces.  Accessible toilet can be found at Moore Park West, parking at 55 Holt Street underground car park.

Christo's Five Way Pizzeria

The Shift Eatery in Surry Hills is a trendy, 100% plant-based café known for its delicious vegan sandwiches, coffee, and brunch dishes. It offers a casual and cozy atmosphere, with both indoor and outdoor seating, making it a  spot for those seeking healthy, cruelty-free meals in the heart of Sydney.

The café is wheelchair accessible thanks to a ramp at the entrance, allowing mobility devices to enter the venue without any issues. However, since it is a small space, navigating inside may be more challenging during busy hours. You can easily place your order inside and enjoy your coffee or meal in either the indoor or outdoor seating areas, depending on the weather.

Unfortunately, the toilets in the venue are not accessible. The door threshold is quite narrow, and reaching the communal bathroom requires going up some steps.  Closest accessible toilets can be found at Central Train Station.

The Kashbah Hotel on William Street is a lively, fun pub with a great atmosphere and a solid selection of drinks, perfect for a casual night out.

However, being an older building and due to strata regulations, the pub isn’t able to make renovations to improve accessibility. There’s a step at the entrance, and since William Street is a bit hilly, there's a small (about 5 cm) step that helps balance the building, which can be tricky for mobility devices to get over.

Unfortunately, there’s no outside seating area either, so the pub isn’t really accessible for those with mobility needs. It's a great spot for those who can navigate the steps, but not the best choice if accessibility is a concern.

Strand Kasbah

Sun Hot Bakery Café is a local spot located within the Kings Cross Centre. The shopping mall is easily accessible, with entrances on both sides and a ramp linking Darlinghurst Road to Bayswater Avenue. The café is situated on the fully accessible ground floor and features a low counter, making it simple to order their affordable and delicious Vietnamese dishes or grab a quick coffee while waiting for someone finishing their shopping.
 

There’s a small table near the counter if you’d like to sit and enjoy your meal. While the space around it can accommodate a wheelchair for a short time, the area can get a bit busy with foot traffic, though it’s still manageable.

For added convenience, public restrooms are located directly across from the café within the complex. If you need assistance or directions, the friendly and experienced owner is always happy to help and share local tips.
