The Art Gallery of New South Wales is a premier public art museum comprising two major campus buildings. The historic Naala Nura (south) and the modern Naala Badu (north) located on Art Gallery Road within The Domain in Sydney’s CBD. The Gallery runs across two connected buildings: Naala Nura ('seeing Country') which is the 1871 sandstone building on the south side, facing the Domain parklands, while Naala Badu ('seeing waters') is the new building on the north side, overlooking Sydney Harbour. The two buildings are joined by a public Art Garden, and the whole campus has an official "physical access" information page covering both buildings.

For people with mobility needs, it is important to note that the primary elevator connecting the ground floor to lower level three in the Naala Nura Building is temporarily out of service until October 2026. While most public spaces are highly accessible and offer free wheelchair or mobility scooter hire, accredited Changing Places facilities and unisex accessible restrooms are conveniently distributed on lower level one and two of Naala Nura and lower levels one, two, and four of Naala Badu. Inside the venues, a permanent external access ramp bypasses the main entrance steps, and step-free entry is also available via the rear of the gallery.
To get there, public transport options like buses or trains provide direct drop-off from York Street at the Queen Victoria Building and via St James and Martin Place train stations. Wheelchairs are also available inside both buildings upn equest from the information desk or making a reservation before the tour to the Gallery to ensure availability of the Wheelchairs.

Accessible parking options include three dedicated curbside mobility parking spaces directly in front of the buildings on Art Gallery Road, two additional spaces near the Woolloomooloo Gate intersection, and two onsite spaces at the rear of Naala Nura accessible via an intercom service road, although general paid parking can also be found at the nearby Domain Car Park which features an operational lift but lacks a fully sealed path leading directly up to the gallery grounds.

Entry: access into and out of Naala Badu is via an airlock from Art Gallery Road, and does not require the traversing of any stairs — the Welcome Plaza and Entrance Pavilion Have a gentle aceess

    • On-street, front of the Gallery: three dedicated accessible parking spaces with kerb access — two in front of Naala Nura, and one in front of Naala Badu (available during Gallery opening hours; note that from 10pm–10am this space reverts to a loading zone).

    • Near the Botanic Garden: two more accessible spaces are located by the Woolloomooloo Gate entrance to the Royal Botanic Garden, near Art Gallery Road/Mrs Macquaries Road.

    • On-site, rear of Naala Nura: two dedicated accessible spaces, reached via the signposted "Deliveries" service road off Art Gallery Road on the building's south side, to a boom gate — press the intercom and security will direct you to a space if one's free.

    • General parking: metered/timed parking is available on Art Gallery Road, Mrs Macquaries Road, Hospital Road, Lincoln Crescent and nearby Woolloomooloo streets; mobility-permit holders park free and for longer periods. nsw

    • Domain Car Park: operated by Wilson Parking, next to the Gallery, with accessible lifts and a bitumen path from its nearest lift to the Gallery's rear accessible entrance — though see the note above about one lift currently being replaced.

There are two dedicated accessible parking spaces onsite, at the rear of Naala Nura. To access these spaces, drive down the service road (signposted 'Deliveries') off Art Gallery Road on the south side of the building, to the boom gate. At the gate, press the intercom and our security staff will direct you to a parking space if one is available

For group access bookings, staff can meet a bus at arrival and support entry to the campus (phone the Gallery on arrival); wheelchairs are available on site, and three weeks' notice is needed for organised access bookings, which run Tuesday–Thursday.
