Place Of Worship

Located in the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture this Labyrinth can be seen when walk past the buildings on the right (St Mark's Theological Centre) and the Giant Cross, and Firepit, and then about 20m beyond is the labyrinth.

Parking is available and the terrain is mixed so assistance would be ideal for wheelchairs users. 

No toilets available,  but you can visit Old Parliament  3 mins drive. 

Canberra labyrinth

Six designated parking bays can be found outside Parliament Square.  

Two bays are situated next to each other with a further four on the other side of the entry steps to the building.

There is a dropped kerb to the level paved pathway.

The National Rose Gardens is an accessible open area with level access pathways throughout.

The Rose Gardens were developed at a time when flight was still in its infancy, yet were planted to resemble two roses when viewed from above. The idea was put forward in 1928 but no work was undertaken until 1933, when the Minister for the Interior, John Perkins, planted the first shrub and announced that 2000 of the planned 8000 roses would be planted within a week.

The beds are located on either side of the central lawn in front of Old Parliament House and are open for all to enjoy.

The Chairman & Yip is an iconic Canberra institution, operating for 30 years and one of the capital's most highly regarded restaurants. Centrally located & accessible in the Hotel Realm precinct in Barton, serving modern Pan-Asian cuisine in spacious and elegant surrounds, with private dining rooms, fully-enclosed balcony garden.

The venue offers step free access via the hotel entry.   Tables are spaciously dotted throughout the dining room with non fixed chairs along with fixed seating booths.  There’s also an accessible outdoor terrace that’s primed for year-round dining.

Med is an accessible Mediterranean restaurant at the base of Barton’s Burbury Hotel with paved level pathway approach to side ramps as there are steps at the front of the hotel.

The restaurant is accessed via huge glass & wooden oval door into spacious interior with floor to ceiling windows & access to the bar.  The dining area features freestanding tables, chairs, banquette seating & large outdoor covered courtyard dining.  

The restaurant menu goes big on share plates drawing on flavors from Turkey, Greece & large swathes of the Middle East.  A tight wine list takes in local & international options, including lesser-known ones from Lebanon’s thriving scene, such as marijuana-farmers-turned-winemakers Couvent Rouge.

On-Lake Cafe is an accessible cafe located in Bowen Park, Barton.

The Museum of Australia Democracy at Old Parliament House is an accessible venue with step-free access to every level of the museum.

The entrance to the museum is at the front of the building, up the central staircase & through the glass doors where reception is.  Courtesy wheelchairs & strollers are available from reception. Mobility scooters may be used in all areas of the museum.  As a heritage building, Old Parliament House has some small rooms & narrow spaces.  Some areas of House of Representatives & Senate chambers are not accessible to wheelchair users.

There is lift access, via the doors on either side of the staircase. These doors have signs marked accessible entry.

Accessible toilets are located on the Lower floor & on the Main floor. Baby changing facilities are located on the Lower floor & the Main floor.

Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House

Maple + Clove is an accessible venue located at the heart of the Realm Precinct in leafy Barton.  Maple + Clove believes nature provides seasonal food to nourish your body naturally with their wholesome meals cooked on the premises daily, using fresh, local, seasonal &wholefood ingredients.

The venue features step free access via paved pathway approach to wide doorway.  Inside there are communal long tables with stools, fixed banquette seating with tables & chairs & ample outside tables & chairs covered by umbrellas.

Maple + Clove

Bowen Park is a 6 hectare lakeside park on Lake Burley Griffin’s East Basin in Barton. Set at the end of Brisbane Avenue, which forms one of the main paths to access the Parliamentary zone.  

There are paved level accessible pathways around the park, an accessible cafe called On The Lake Cafe, quiet areas, with space for picnics, fishing & walking.  The park also offers electric & gas BBQs, picnic tables  & large open grassed areas.  Dogs are allowed (on the leash). 

Accessible parking & toilets can also be found in the park. 

Bowen Park

Accessible toilets can be found at Bowen Park near the car park with paved level pathway approach.

Accessible Toilet

The Centenary Trail is an accessible 145-kilometre self-guided, non-motorised loop trail for walkers, rollers & touring cyclists. It showcases urban & rural Canberra, as well as iconic sites & hidden treasures.  The trail is designed to be accessible for as many walkers & cyclists as possible. It follows management trails, walking tracks & shared paths. It is designed for low intensity use by all walkers, rollers & cyclists of moderate ability, with less than a 10% gradient overall.

The Centenary Trail is divided into daily sections. You can join or leave the trail in many locations. The entire trail can be explored as a 7-day walk, averaging just over 20 km per day or 3-day ride, averaging just over 45 km per day.

The trail can be explored into seven sections 1st being Parliament House to Watson, 2nd Watson to Northern Border Campsite, 3rd Northern Border Campsite to Hall Village, 4th Hall Village to Black Mountain, 5th Black Mountain to Stromlo Forest Park, 6th Stromlo Forest to Tuggeranong Town Centre, 7th Tuggeranong Town Centre to Parliament House.

Canberra Centenary Trail

The Aboriginal Tent Embassy is located on the lawns opposite Parliament House, Canberra & is a permanent protest occupation site as a focus for representing the political rights of Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islander people.

Strictly speaking this is not a tourist destination or an "embassy" in the normal sense of the term. Rather it is a place where you may go to learn and understand something of the story behind the "Embassy".

On 26 January 1972 four Indigenous men set up a beach umbrella on the lawns.  Describing the umbrella as the Aboriginal Embassy, the men were protesting the McMahon government’s approach to Indigenous land rights.

The National Gallery of Australia is an accessible gallery showing world-class exhibitions located on the shores of Canberra's Lake Burley Griffin.

There are free access programs to support your exploration of the Gallery. These programs are designed with and for people with disabilities. The National Gallery is family friendly & offers a range of experiences for the whole family including a range of inclusive public programs designed to inspire creativity & learning.  

The Gallery grounds encompass the Sculpture Garden & the Australian Garden featuring almost 30 works of art.   There is also a specialist art library housing the most comprehensive collection of visual arts literature in Australia.  A Members Lounge overlooking overlooking the Sculpture Garden (lakeside) & Lake Burley Griffin.  The Art Store located on the Ground Level near the main entrance & the Street Café featuring indoor & outdoor seating, great coffee, delicious sweet & savoury snacks & light lunch options.

Accessible toilets are located on Ground level near the cloakroom, and on Level 1 near the James Fairfax Theatre.

The Gallery has an underground carpark with eight spaces reserved for visitors with disability. They are located close to lift access, which will take you to the main entrance of the Gallery. The entrance to the Gallery’s main underground carpark is down a ramp from Parkes Place. As you turn off King Edward Terrace into Parkes Place the entrance is immediately on your right. To enter the carpark, take a ticket and the boom gate will automatically lift.

There are also four reserved spaces for people with disability in the above-ground carpark off Bowen Drive, which is open to the public on weekends and public holidays. Access to the Gallery main entrance from this carpark is via the Australian Gardens and a ramp. The distance to the Gallery’s entrance is approximately 80m and the route is not protected from weather. To access these reserved parking spaces on Mon–Fri, use the intercom button to alert the Security team who will open the boom gate.

Free parking is available for both carparks when the boom gate ticket is presented at the concierge desk in the main foyer for validation at the end of your visit. You may be asked to present a disability parking permit to verify your use of this space.

National Gallery of Australia

King George V Memorial is accessed via paved level pathway approach situated outside Old Parliament House.

Originally commissioned in 1936, King George V Memorial was not completed until 1953, due to the Second World War.

The work consists of a bronze statue of George V on one side of a granite pylon and a stone statue of Saint George on the other, to symbolise the leadership of George V through the First World War.

In 1953 it was located on the central land axis, directly across from Old Parliament House, but was moved to one side in 1968.

King George V Memorial

The Federation Centenary Fountain can be found in front of Old Parliament House.  They feature paved level pathway approach but unfortunately the heritage-listed fountains are broken & not operational.

The Fountains were envisaged by Walter Burley Griffin in his plan for Canberra but were not commissioned until 1968.  They were refurbished between 1997 & 2000 but from 2000 to 2013 only operated intermittently, ceasing completely in 2014.

Federation Centenary Fountains

The National Portrait Gallery is an accessible venue with the purpose to increase the understanding & appreciation of the Australian people –  identity, history, culture, creativity & diversity – through portraiture.

The Gallery offers step free entry via paved pathway approach located on King Edward Terrace in front of the High Court & next to National Gallery of Australia.  The Gallery provide free access services to all visitors with disability or access requirements. Some programs may require purchase of an exhibition ticket.  The Gallery site, the Collection, exhibitions & public programs are accessible to all.

Wheelchairs & walkers are available to use for free. Wheelchair access is available in the Gallery public spaces, with lift access from the underground to the public ground level.

Registered assistance & Guide Dogs are more than welcome in all spaces at the Gallery.

Accessible toilets are located on the ground level next to both the Cloak Room and Education Studio.

The Curatoreum/Portrait Gallery Store is a great place to enjoy the art of browsing with a treasure trove of the interesting & unusual, showcasing cutting edge designer jewellery, ceramics and textiles in addition to its extensive specialist art & design literary offering.

The Fresh Collective/Portrait Cafe offers a casual dining experience in a relaxed, light-filled space & on an outdoor terrace. Their food is fresh, homemade where possible, & features seasonal produce from local community-focused producers. They have a broad selection of pastries, cakes, snacks, freshly made salads & sandwiches complemented by a selection of coffee, soft drinks, wine & beer.

There is an Underground carpark accessed from Parkes Place.  Disability parking permit holders can validate their parking ticket for free at the Information Desk.

National Portrait Gallery

The Presbyterian Church of St. Andrew's is a welcoming place of worship and spiritual growth, deeply rooted in the rich traditions of the Presbyterian faith.

Located near the Parliamentary Triangle, the church offers a serene and accessible setting for community activities and the sharing of Christian values with fellow believers. The church hosts various community gatherings and events, such as the Monday Evening Bible Study and the Ladies Tuesday Group. Presbyterian Church of Saint Andrew

Parliament House also known as Capital Hill or simply Parliament is the meeting place of the Parliament of Australia situated on the southern apex of the Parliamentary Triangle atop Capital Hill, at the meeting point of Commonwealth, Adelaide, Canberra and Kings Avenue enclosed by the State Circle.

Parliament House offers paved pathway approach to step free entry with daily guided tours to explore the architecture, history, art collections, Great Hall Tapestry, Chambers of the Senate & House of Representatives,  & behind-the-scenes experience (bookings are essential). Parliament House contains offers 4,700 roooms with many roooms open to the public. The main foyer contains a marble staircase & leads to the Great Hall with the large tapestry.

Parliament House

The Sculpture Garden is situated between the National Gallery and the shores of Lake Burley Griffin.

The diagonal of the main pathway and the floor plan of the garden repeats the triangular architecture of the main building.  The accessible paved level pathways are available all around the gardens.

Underground paid parking is accessed via Parkes Place. Payment for parking is by card only, and is free from 5pm for after-hours events, or for those with a valid disability parking permit.

Accessible parking is available in the underground parking station. The eight reserved accessible spaces are close to lift access, bringing you to the main entry. Present your parking ticket and disability parking permit at the front desk in the main foyer at the end of your visit for validation.

Sculpture Garden, National Gallery of Australia 

Rosa's is an accessible venue located at the idyllic Lawns of the Lobby serving pizza, paninis & drinks throughout the day, along with pastries & coffee for breakfast.

The venue features large open decked seating area with frestanding tables, chairs, high tables with stools, some umbrella shaded seating & access to the counter.

Rosa's

KOTO is an accessible Japanese restaurant located in The Lobby building in Canberra's King George Terrace.  KOTO is an intergral part of the national Triangle's new precinct, The lawns of The Lobby.  KOTO has been designed to protect the legacy of The Lobby building & continue the hospitality history in teh 50-year-old pavillion, including private dining.

KOTO offers step free entry to large entry doors into a spacious lobby via paved pathway approach.  Inside there are freestanding tables & chairs along with communal bar counter seating.  There is also outdoor seating.

Both accessible parking & accessible toilet are both onsite.

KOTO Restaurant

The High Court of Australia is an accessible venue with paved pathway approach to revolving doors.  The very spacious foyer allows for easy access & there are ramps to differnt levels.   The building is open to the public from 9.45am to 4.30pm Monday through Friday, except for public holidays, & Sunday from midday to 4.00pm.  Admission to the High Court building is free of charge.  

Visitors are welcome to visit the building during opening hours & a Court Guide is available in each courtroom providing information about the history, role, function & its architecture.  On sitting days, visitors are welcome to view the sitting Court.  Booked tours are also available.

High Court of Australia

Telopea Park is an 8 hectare space in Barton with picnic and playground areas, parking, cycle and pedestrian paths, accessible public toilets and barbecues.

Created in 1922, Telopea Park is named after the floral emblem of New South Wales, also known as the Waratah.  It features an informal mix of mature exotic and native trees, and is a popular venue for family picnics. It attracts pedestrians and cyclists from Kingston and Manuka.

Telopea Park

The George Bar & Grill is an accessible restaurant, bar located at 20 Gibraltar Street Bungendore, 30 minutes drive from Canberra.

The venue offers step free entry via paved level pathway approach into a spacious dining area with seating for 120 around the feature fireplace with freestanding tables, chairs & easy access to the bar. There is a further outdoor seating in the beer garden for approximately another 100. The beer garden also features a children’s play area.

The George Bar & Grill

Questacon - The National Science and Technology Centre is an accessible, interactive science communication facility in Canberra’s Parliamentary Zone which offers interactive & hands-on experiences in themed galleries.

The venue is open for timed sessions to inspire imaginations with the world of science & technology. Tickets must be pre-booked online for all visitors in your group, including babies and children. It is recommended to book early as tickets for each session are limited.

The minimum 2-hour session visit to Questacon (although some visitors will need longer) includes travel from the centre of an earthquake, to the heart of a beehive, all the way to outer space.  The Awesome Earth exhibition highlights the mighty power & stunning beauty of our planet & the universe.  Q Lab offers a dynamic experimental environment along with Evening Experiences, sessions starting at 5 pm or 7 pm.

Questacon is committed to enabling Centre-wide disability access to their facilities & services with step free entry.  

Atomic Café at Questacon offers step free entry & easy access to the counter, freestanding tables & chairs & outside covered seating. Locally owned & operated by Atomic Catering they pride themselves on providing delicious products & excellent service in a relaxed environment.

Canberra Glassworks is an accessible gallery & glass art studio housed in the historic Kingston Power House.  Built & supported by the ACT Government, Canberra Glassworks is a dynamic, professional glassmaking facility, dedicated to artists’ working in contemporary glass art, craft & design.

The Glassworks offers step free entry via paved pathway approach to automatic glass doors.  Inside there is a viewing platform overseeing the hotshop Glassworks floor & artists at work.  The platform through to the coldworking & flameworking stations does feature some stairs. but this does allow for access through to the shop & hotshop (where artists will be blowing glass).  Outside is a coffee cart with tables & chairs.

Accessible parking is available onsite along with accessible toilets 500m away at Bowen Park. Free parking on Eastlake Parade near the Fyshwick side.

Canberra Glassworks

Betty Botter is an accessible cafe located on Canberra Avenue, Forrest, sitting under the Department of Human Services in the Doris Blackburn Building.

The venue offers set free entry to double doors via tiled level lead-in pathway.  Inside there are freestanding tables & chairs with easy access to the counter.

Accessible toilets can be found just over 600m away at Manuka Terrace & Telopea Park. Accessible parking can be found at 78 Franklin Street.
