The Canberra Carousel is located in Petrie Plaza in the Canberra Central Business District.  

This picturesque carousel delights children & adults alike with its air of olde-worlde charm.  The organ & the fifty two hand carved wooden horses & two elephants were specially imported from Germany. The twisted brass upright poles were made in Scotland.  The horses are four abreast in 14 rows,  two hand carved wooden elephant carriages, one elephant is white the other is grey.  Most of the horses & elephants have names; even Pharlap has his place on the platform.  Beginning life in Melbourne in 1914, the carousel was installed in Canberra in 1974.

Akiba is an accessible venue serving Japanese/Korean fusion cuisine.  The menu spans from Asian barbecue, raw bar and dim sum and offers a special ‘feed me’ menu for those who simply can’t decide. At the heart of the kitchen, the chefs cook over live wood and charcoal to create a unique flavour.  An exotic cocktail list & drinks menu couple the food.

There is unfixed seating at communal benches, high tables with unfixed stools, unfixed high stools in front of the raw kitchen bar with views of the chefs skilfully slicing sashimi or dressing oysters. Highball is an accessible cocktail bar located in the Melbourne Building above London Circuit.

The building is accessed via paved level pathway approach to step free double frontage doors off London Circuit, with lift access to  the cuban inspired Highball bar.  Inside is spacious with easy access to the bar, plenty of places to sit to take in the elevated view across the city with high tables & stools, lots of warmly lit lanterns, hacienda-style tiled floors & lush greenery.

The Main Bar & Lounge area features velvet teal banquette seating, freestanding tables & stools.  The Terrace offers huge window city views, high tables & stools.   The Casita Bar is Highball's private space with terrace access & dedicated bar.

The ACT Memorial is an accessible war Memorial commemorating men & women associated with the ACT who served in conflicts, peacekeeping missions & related service throughout the world, some of whom paid the supreme sacrifice.  

There are two parts to the Memorial:  the physical part which offers step free access throughout & is located opposite Civic Square on London Circuit.  The Memorial features paved pathway lead-in pathways with benches dotted around.   The second part is the website www.memorial.act.gov.au containing a database of names & information about the people honoured by the Memorial.

ACT Memorial

Tuckshop Tamada is a takeaway restaurant serving third generation affordable, authentic Thai Food.  Tucked away on Bible Lane in Civic (next door to Akiba and where Flash Eats burgers used to live).

The Tuckshop does have steps up to the counter, however the staff are friendly & am sure would come down to take an order.

So far, Tuckshop Tamada is only open for weekday lunches. But business hours may expand into dinner service depending on demand. The family also have a permit for outdoor seating which is something they will organise soon.

Gus' Place is an accessible cafe located on Bunda Street in the heart of Canberra city offering step free access.  It opened in 1969 & later became the first outdoor pavement cafe in Canberra.  It is one of the oldest and best known cafes in Canberra and one of the first European-style cafes in Australia with both outdoor &  indoor dining areas.

The venue is famous for its outdoor dining area with loads of seating with non fixed tables & chairs so easily moveable & large glass windows.  There is also inside seating but less room with a busy bar in the centre of the cafe.

Canberra Theatre Centre also known as the Canberra Theatre is the Australian Capital Territory’s central performing arts venue.  

The theatre offers step free entry via paved level pathway approach to automatic glass doors.  There are steps as the front of the venue however there is a ramp to the left. There is lift access to the first balcony in The Playhouse, but no lift access to the second balcony.

Mobility assistance is available, if you require access seating at the end of a row, if you need to avoid stairs, or if you would like to make use of the few available wheelchairs in the venue.  Just contact the Canberra Ticketing Box Office team by phone, 02 6275 2700, in person or complete the special seating request form on their website.  The theatre need to have seats removed to satisfactorily accommodate wheelchair bookings. In order to maximise access for patrons with disabilities and their accompanying guests they request patrons who book in this area collect their tickets on the day of the performance.  Staff will give priority to people with disabilities who come to the box office for ticket collection.  There are a few wheelchairs available to use at the theatre.

Bar Rochford is an inaccessible wine & cocktail bar hidden away in the one of the capital’s oldest buildings, the iconic Melbourne Building.  Being a heritage listed building they are not permitted to install a lift.  However, the staff are more than willing to help anyone with mobility issues, if it's possible, up the stairs to the first floor.  They say they have done it before a number of times, just ask.

The centerpiece at Bar Rochford is a huge arched window overlooking London Circuit.  In winter, there’s also a roaring fire to enjoy. There is a step leading up to the outdoor takeaway hatch but step free entry to the small inside seating area & access to the inside counter.  There are high & low tables with stools.

Accessible parking & toilets can be found at the Canberra Centre on Bunda Street.

White Rabbit Cocktail Room is an accessible cocktail & tapas venue located on Northbourne Avenue, Canberra.

The venue offers step free entry via paved level pathway with ramp to large double doors.  Inside features polished floors & patterned wallpaper, velour couches frame all areas of the interior, with a lower area complete with an antique sideboard as a DJ table hosting DJ nights.  There is easy access to the bar with high stool seating, low tables & stools

Along the right hand wall are wood & glass ‘lockers’ which regular patrons can purchase, ensuring they are waited on hand and foot with bottle service at every visit & have somewhere to keep their ‘drink me’ libations. An arbor draped in flowers will frame the doorway to the bathrooms, with an Alice in Wonderland window decal & plush curtains creating a hidden atmosphere.

An accessible parking spot can be found right outside the Novotel, further parking at Hobart Place & Constitution Place.  Accessible toilets can be found 450m away at the Canberra Centre.
