Howe Crescent Reserve

St Vincent Gardens is located in the middle of Albert Park with plenty of open spaces & gorgeous gardens with wide accessible pathways throughout with benches & shelter dotted around.

St Vincent Gardens Playground can be found on the Vincent Street end with climbing structures, tunnel slide, spiral ladder, shop front, abacus, steps, steering wheel, swings, springers, climbing mat, spiral climber, chain traverse, fireman pole, ramps, monkey bars, monkey rungs, flying fox & four person pommel bounce. Shade is provided from trees with shaded seats too.

The park is separated by Montague Street but the 'West side' is the ideal spot to be for kids as the other side has the Albert Park VRI Bowling Club along with the Albert Park Lawn Tennis Club.

There are accessible pathways around the gardens, water fountains, benches, picnic area both shaded & unshaded, public toilets & free street parking.  

Accessible toilets can be found just under 1km away with adult changing facilities at South Melbourne Central on Cecil Street along with South Melbourne Market, Cot Picnic Area & The Clarendon Centre.

Parking is underneath and if the designated disabled area is full, the staff corden off more of the general car park in order to extend the disabled parking area.  

(Before COVID, one could pre-book a disabled parking spot and even pre-book valet parking so that the wheelchair user and carers could be dropped off right at the underground entrance to the venue. Wonderful!)

When booking seats, there is a dedicated number to call and staff have always been helpful in ensuring we book seats that meet our needs.  Companion Card is accepted.

All the staff onsite are helpful and respectful.  Almost always we have had a dedicated staff member to assist us to our seats.

The lifts are enormous so there is no problem with the whole group travelling together - wheelchair user, family and carer. 

This is how accessibility should be done!

The only drawback is that the disabled toilets are on the smaller side, but there is an MLAK facility 200m away at Hamer Hall.  (We haven't tried it.)

There are 2 separate accessible parking spaces just up the street on other side. And a secure (brand) car park across the road at 200 Queens St.


Denmark House

Liminal is an accessible venue with ramp and automatic door entrance from Collins St, lift access from Flinders Lane.  

Table spacing allows for a wheelchair to fit with assistance around non fixed tables, benches, and high stools.  No outside seating					
Accessible toilet, wheelchair access but with swing door.  The toilet is shared with other venues, within the lobby of the building.
Accessible parking nearby at Scot's Church, Russell Place Car Park & 120 Collins Street.  


Liminal

The theatre is located on Collins Street in the City of Melbourne and the streets around the theatre are fairly steep.  If you are using a manual wheelchair it’s fairly hard work pushing yourself up to the theatre from the traffic light. If you are strong enough you will be fine but it’s still fairly challenging to get around on these streets in this area. No problem for power wheelchair users though.

 The theatre itself has a small step going into the building itself from Collins Street but there’s also a cut away area on the right side of the doors leading into the building from the street, so it’s step free access from the street. However, Collins Street is a fairly steep street to go along so it’s best to have a powered wheelchair to get around in the street unless you have someone else with you that can help you push your wheelchair up to the theatre otherwise if you have strong enough arms you could try doing it yourself but it’s directly opposite the Regent Theatre as well which is also steep to get around on too.

Once inside the theatre there’s a dedicated disabled bathroom to the side of the entrance and then to get access to the theatre itself there’s a slight slope going down to the seating areas and the best seats are available in the stalls area as the dress circle is only accessible via a flight of stairs which is the situation in most Melbourne theatres. The stalls area is accessible for everyone, and they can help you to your seat if you can transfer yourself and they’ll take your wheelchair back to the foyer until the intermission if there’s one during the show or they’ll bring it back to you at the end of the show.

The only downside of this theatre is that the building is located on a steep street which is Collins Street. You can be dropped off directly outside of the theatre and there’s parking available in the nearby streets but can’t remember if there’s any disabled parking available in the immediate area.

Accessible toilets can be found at St Collins Lane, City Library, Flinders St Station & Fed Square - External.

Athenaeum Theatre

Manchester Press is an accessible coffee shop with step-free front & open sliding door.  The laneway is smooth aside from one row of cobblestones down the middle.
A wheelchair fits with assistance round the 
tables with non fixed benches & high stools.		
There is no outside seating or accessible toilet but one can be found at 113 Queen Street or the Emporium on Lonsdale Street.
Accessible parking can be found nearby at Bourke Square 


Manchester Press

Step free access to Bourke Street Mall. Pedestrianised area. Parking nearby Melbourne information desk located at Bourke Street mall. 

Trams accessible by wheelchair as raised pavement to meet trams.  
Accessible toilets can be found at Emporium on Lonsdale Street. 




Elizabeth St/Bourke St

Station & Platform access is flat
Tram access has portable ramp, can be requested. Entry on to tram has small bump and incline.  Both sides of the tram stop have bollards that will need to be manoeuvred around. 
Accessible toilet can be found at Emporium on Lonsdale Street.

Elizabeth St/Bourke St 5

Single parallel space available 2hours 7.30am to 8.30pm, unlimited time all other hours. Street is on approximately a 20° angle

VelaThai ia an accessible restaurant via a ramp to manual entry door 
The table spacing is cramped with non fixed benches.  There is no outside seating or accessible toilet but one can be found at Coles Port Melbourne along with parking.  There is also accessible parking nearby on the street

The Hardware Club is an inaccessible Italian dine-in bar with step access to the venue via  open swing door
There are tables, chairs benches & high stools inside the venue & outside seating which can be moved to accommodate a wheelchair
There is a toilet inside, up the stairs but an accessible one can be found at 424 Lonsdale Street with accessible parking at Bourke Square



The Hardware Club

Osteria Ilaria is an inassessible Italian restaurant with step access to the venue & swinging doors.
A wheelchair can fit between tables & chairs which can be moved & there is no outside seating.
There an ambulant toilet onsite, an accessible one can be found at 113 Queen Street or 424 Lonsdale Street.
There is parking nearby on the street, with accessible parking at Bourke Street

Bourke Street Mall is accessible with step free access to the venue.  Accessible entries are clearly labelled on walls to entries that are not accessible. Doors are left open during opening hours.
Numerous lifts are located within mall & are easy to find and well marked
Clearly marked accessible toilets on all signage. Seperate accessible toilets available with additional accessible cubicles present in some Male toilets
Accessible toilets present on every second floor. Easy to access. However floor 3 accessible toilets present in the “Emporium” side of the mall and not Myer. 
Parents room is accessibility inclusive. Changing tables are available.
Accessible toilets have usual automatic button to open door.
Clean and spacious within accessible toilet. Accessible cubicle present in Men’s has small door and minimal space.

Bourke Street Mall

There is step free access to the venue, with a permanent ramp. 
Inside, the lifts easy to find, they are in the right side of the mall.
There are clearly marked accessible toilets & parking at Bourke Square.  



Pedestrianised shopping centre. No curbs. Easy access from trams. 
The building is easily accessible via a ramp on Bourke Street and has step free access on Collins Street. The building is well serviced by lifts throughout. Accessible bathroom facilities are accessible at the rear of the Food Court.
Well maintained.  Nearby parking in Melbourne Central or streets

Several accessible rooms. Mine was good. Slightly too much for furniture to navigate around, but generally spacious enough.

The doorway into the bath room was maybe too narrow for the widest wheelchairs. Otherwise the bath room was well laid out. The big bonus about this did not apply to me but to my wife. In the hundreds of hotel rooms we have stayed in together, she has always had to put up with only a shower. For the first time ever, we had a bath room with both!

Grand Hyatt Melbourne

The Rex Hotel is an accessible venue with step-free front, no door & signposted.  	
Table spacing allows for a wheelchair to fit easily
with non fixed tables	& seating.  	
There is no outside seating.  		
Accessible toilet onsite with wheelchair access, additional toilet at Coles Port Melbourne along with parking.  
Further parking can be found on the street nearby & 45-53 Bay Street.  


Rex Hotel

Tropicana is an accessible juice bar with step free entry with no door & cramped but no fixed tables & seating outside, access to counter & limited tables inside.
Accessible toilets can be found at Emporium Melbourne, parking at Bourke Square, The Strand & Galleria

The venue is accessible with step-free front to manual	entry doors.  
Table spacing is cramped, high stools	which is fixed to the floor & no outside seating.
