The Blue Bar at the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney is  a cocktail bar located on the 36th floor and offers stunning views of the city and harbor. 

The Shangri-La building provides accessible features, including ramps and elevators, to accommodate guests with mobility needs. You can access the Blue Bar through the main lobby of the Shangri-La Hotel which is step-free. Elevators directly connect to the higher floors where the bar is located. The space is restricted, however, the staff are able to allocate tables to ensure enough room for wheelchair users.

The hotel is located near Circular Quay and Wynyard train stations, both of which are accessible via wheelchair and other mobility aids. Taxis and rideshare services can also drop off directly at the hotel entrance in a secured way. Designated parking spots can be found in the Wilson carpark around 100 meters away.

There are also plenty of shops and cafes in the immediate surrounding.
The venue does have its own car park which is free of charge but without designated accessible parking spots. The route from the car park to the entrance is accessible to a wheelchair user with assistance. Assistance may be required because there are slopes/ramps. But there is also a Wilson carpark nearby.

Looks to be currently under renovation December 2022. There are a lot of stairs making the venue inaccessible. A lot of scaffolding / bordering and steel poles in wall ways around tables.

However, the hotel’s restaurant is located down a flight of steps and is therefore inaccessible. But the hotel is surrounded by plenty of accessible cafes and restaurants.

Cava on Kent is a fully accessible neighbourhood cafe, open for breakfast and lunch. Only a few tables inside are easy to get to in a wheelchair when it is busy at peak times. However, the cafe does have the benefit of a huge outside space, way back from the road, and most of the tables here are fully accessible. Tables sometimes make the route to the shared accessible toilet tricky, so it may best to approach it from one of the adjoining businesses that share it.

First Fleet Park provides a great vantage point to view the comings and goings of Sydney's ferries and jetcats. First Fleet Park is an accessible park located on George Street. There is step-free access via entrances from Circular Quay and Alfred Street. The terrain is hard and flat. Plenty of accessible cafes and eateries can be found at Circular Quay and The Rocks. There is no toilet located at the park, the closest facilities are at Circular Quay Train Station.
Designated accessible parking spaces for visitors with RTA permits are located at: Cumberland Street, Harrington Street, George Street, Hickson Road.

First Fleet Park

Situated in the Rocks, within walking distance from Sydney’s landmarks, on the first floor of the Clocktower shopping complex, Shiki Japanese Restaurant can be accessed via a lift in the adjoining car park. There is step-free access into and around the venue, which has an accessible toilet. Secure Wilson car parking is available at Clocktower Square’s basement.

The Morrison Bar and Oyster Room is nestled in the heart of Sydney’s CBD and is an accessible restaurant and bar located on George Street. There is an extra entry for wheelchair users with wider doorframe and a small “ramp“ leading into the venue. The space inside is very restricted. You definitely have to inform the venue before your arrival as they have to prepare and allocate the tables to ensure that there is enough room to maneuver. There is an accessible toilet on site.

A popular spot with locals, workers and visitors, Observatory Hill Park offers sweeping, panoramic views of Sydney Harbour and the Harbour Bridge for free. It is nestled in the city centre.
Observatory Hill Park is a partially accessible plot with step-free access. The gradient varies from steep to medium and terrain is mostly hard. In the park you can find some seating and picnic areas. There are not many cafes in the immediate vicinity.

Phillip’s Foote is an accessible restaurant on George Street serving Australian cuisine. Cobbles leading up to the venue make wheelchair access tricky, but there is step-free access into and around the ground floor of the venue. The first floor is only accessible by stairs. Some of the tables are inaccessible due to high stools and benches.
Accessible toilets are located on the ground floor. There are several car-parking stations in the vicinity.

The Argyle

The Museum of Contemporary Art is fully accessible to the mobility impaired. You can access the MCA via the George Street entrance or via a ramp from Circular Quay. All public areas of the museum, including the MCA Store, MCA Café and restaurant and galleries are accessible via lifts. You can borrow wheelchairs at no charge from the Information Desk on level 1. 

Fully accessible toilets are located on the ground level, levels 2 and 3, level 4 Cafe, level 6 Rooftop Venues and in the National Centre for Creative Learning. 

Parking is available a short distance from the museum at Wilson Parking, 155 George Street, The Rocks. More parking can be found at Wilson Parking Grosvenor Place, 225 George Street, The Rocks. 

Museum Of Contemporary Art (MCA)

Located in The Rocks next to The Argyle, Saké Restaurant & Bar is accessible for wheelchair users. Access can only be attained via the Argyle Street entry, where staff will assist you with a portable ramp. There is only one accessible table in the main dining area, which is usually closed from Monday to Friday, but you can call the venue and make a booking so they can arrange that table for you. Accessible toilets are available on site. Designated parking spots can be found in the Wilson carpark around 150 meters away.

The Cut Bar & Grill is a steakhouse located on Argyle Street, but the venue is inaccessible for wheelchairs. There is a step at the entrance to the restaurant and steps inside the venue, which has no facilities to enable wheelchair access.

The Langham Hotel is undoubtedly one of the most accessible hotels in central Sydney.  

It has one fully accessible room (127 on the first floor, a short distance from the lift) with an interconnecting room if required. 

It is operated with an automatic door opener. The room is spacious in every way both at the foot and at the sides of the bed. There is plenty of room to wheel around and rearrange furniture if necessary. Some electrical power points are at eye level.

The bathroom is very spacious. It is fitted with an automatic sliding door and a sensor which turns on lights automatically upon entry. It has a roll in shower.

Staff are very attentive and quick to arrive if you need extra help with anything

All the public areas of the hotel are fully accessible and roomy. The restaurant and bar have many easily accessible tables. The seating elsewhere is easy to get to. There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor. A long ramp from the concierge entrance area leads up to the main areas. The spa is also accessible by lift.

There is an accessible on street parking space almost directly opposite the hotel entrance. There is a drop curb by the entrance which taxis can use to drop you at.

If you are a manual wheelchair user, there is only one potential drawback: its location. It is situated in a fairly hilly part of the CBD.

Step free access via the entrance on Argyle Street which has a ramp but narrow doorway. Limited seating - 3 to 4 tables inside. Plenty of outdoor seating, easily accessible. The Orient Hotel is an accessible bar. Owing to the fact it is located in a heritage listed building, there is no lift access to the upper restaurant. There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor and there is a ramped entrance on Argyle Street. Ample space between the outside tables, which have glimpses of the harbour & water. Unfortunately all the tables inside are bar height with bar stools!

Located on the second floor of the Gateway shopping centre, Jimmy’s Recipe is an accessible Malaysian restaurant. A lift in the lobby of the complex will take you to the venue, where there is step-free access throughout. While there are no toilets in the restaurant itself, the Gateway food court has unisex facilities. Designated parking spots can be found in the gateway shopping center carpark.

Located in a food court on Playfair Street, 7Rocks is a deli and cafe which is accessible by wheelchair. There are ramps around the courtyard giving access to the outlet and the various seating areas. There are no accessible toilets on-site but some at the Visitors Centre nearby. A large restaurant upstairs in the centre of The Rocks area, great to visit with the whole family, very kid friendly too. Yummy pancakes, pizzas, some salads and it’s fully licensed - something for everyone. Caters easily for large family groups. 

There is a lift to go up to the first floor coming off Playfair street, next to the steps leading to the front door. Although the restaurant is quite roomy with wide aisles to get to all the seats, around half the tables are booth seats, so you may need to book ahead to get one of the open tables with chairs that you can move aside if need be.

Pancakes On The Rocks

Located in a food court on Playfair Street, Hero Sushi Box is a takeaway Japanese food outlet which is accessible by wheelchair. There are ramps around the courtyard giving access to the outlet and the various seating areas. The space in the seating area is generous. There are also designated accessible public toilets located a matter of metres away from Hero Sushi Box in the nearby  Visitor Centre

Tucked away in a narrow alley way on Bulletin Place, Tapavino is a bar that is accessible to wheelchair users. But,  access is extremely limited inside the small bar area, and the venue’s toilets are up a flight of stairs. There is some accessible seating outside the restaurant.

El Greco Yeeros Cafe is a small takeaway outlet on Alfred Street. It is accessible to wheelchair users with step-free access into the counter and dining area, while outside there is a takeaway window and some accessible seating. There are no toilets in this venue.

Hurricane's Grill Circular Quay is accessible to wheelchair users and provides step free entrance. The space inside is generous which means that it is no problem to maneuver within the venue. It has an accessible seating area. While there are no toilets in the restaurant itself, the Gateway food court has unisex facilities. The Quay Cafe is an accessible food and drink outlet inside the entrance of Wharf 6 at Circular Quay. There is an accessible seating area and counter but the space is restricted. There are public accessible toilets very nearby the terminal area, next to the train station.

Step-free automatic doors lead you inside the shop, where you’re met by an accessible counter. There is no seating needed inside. There is step-free access into the main bar area, but some parts of the dining area are inaccessible due to steps and the absence of any ramps or lifts. In the outdoor seating area, the use of high benches means only a small number of tables are accessible. But inform the venue about your visit and staff can arrange a table inside or outside. An accessible toilet is available on site.

Bar 1880 is a speakeasy-type bar located in the historic Bulletin Place building.  Once home to the publishing house of one of the country’s longest-running magazines, Bulletin Magazine, which was published from 1880 all the way through to 2008.

Bar 1880 has two levels: downstairs, you’ll find the ‘Headline Bar’ with alfresco laneway seating on Bulletin Place.   Upstairs is the ‘Press Room’ with lush bar, uneven floorboards that still carry the marks of the original printing press, painted deep blue walls, low lighting, sepia photographs & old newspaper clippings . 

Inside there is a range of seating from high tables with stools, low tables with chairs, stools, banquette seating with outdoor tables & chairs.
