Mobility Parking – 33 Phelps Street, Surry Hills, NSW 2010
This dedicated wheelchair permit bay sits on a quiet, tree-lined stretch of Phelps Street, right in front of a row of heritage terraces. It's clearly signed with the International Symbol of Access and "P 2P, 8am–10pm, Permit Holders Excepted, Area 1B". Permit holders can park here without a time limit during those hours, and it's unrestricted overnight.
It's a peaceful, residential spot rather than one right amongst the shops — the Crown Street precinct is a short 200–300m walk away, worth factoring in if you're planning how far you'll need to travel on the day.
A mature street tree arches over the bay, offering nice shade, though its lower branches sit fairly low, it is worth checking clearance if you're driving a wheelchair-accessible van or have roof-mounted equipment. The tree also drops leaves onto the road and footpath, especially after wind or rain, so the surface can be a little uneven or slippery at times. There's no dropped kerb directly at the bay, so you'll continue a short way along the footpath to reach the nearest flush crossing. The footpath is generally fine for most wheelchairs and scooters, though a council signpost sits close to the kerb and narrows the path slightly, which may be tight for larger power chairs.
Overall, a genuinely accessible and well-signed spot in a calm part of Surry Hills, just allow a little extra time to reach the busier part of the neighbourhood
