Canberra Glassworks is an accessible gallery & glass art studio housed in the historic Kingston Power House.  Built & supported by the ACT Government, Canberra Glassworks is a dynamic, professional glassmaking facility, dedicated to artists’ working in contemporary glass art, craft & design.

The Glassworks offers step free entry via paved pathway approach to automatic glass doors.  Inside there is a viewing platform overseeing the hotshop Glassworks floor & artists at work.  The platform through to the coldworking & flameworking stations does feature some stairs. but this does allow for access through to the shop & hotshop (where artists will be blowing glass).  Outside is a coffee cart with tables & chairs.

Accessible parking is available onsite along with accessible toilets 500m away at Bowen Park. Free parking on Eastlake Parade near the Fyshwick side.

Canberra Glassworks

The Australian War Memorial is an accessible national war memorial & museum dedicated to all Australians who died during the war.  Located in Campbell, a suburb of Canberra the grounds include five buildings & a sculpture garden. Most of the museum galleries & commemorative areas are contained in the Memorial Building.

The Australian War memorial offers step free entry & lift access between the Memorial’s Galleries, located over two levels.  Visitors are advised that lift access to the upper level of the Commemorative Area, including the Roll of Honour, Hall of Memory and Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier, is currently unavailable as they work to expand the galleries. A stair lift is available for people with limited mobility.

Accessible toilets are located at the Memorial Entrance & ambulant toilets are located in the Hall of Valour.  A parent’s room with a baby change table is located in Aircraft Hall.

A limited number of wheelchairs & walkers are available for free hire for visitors to use during their visit. Please ask at the Information Desk on arrival at the Memorial.

Accessible parking spaces are located underneath Poppy’s Café in the P1 Visitor Carpark & there is a small incline on the walk from the accessible parking spaces to the Memorial Entrance.  There is also an accessible pick up & drop off point is available near the Memorial Entrance, on East Road.

Poppy's Café is located on the Australian War Memorial grounds. the Cafe is fully accessible with easy access to the counter, freestanding tables & chairs & outside terrace seating.

Australian War Memorial

Blundells Cottage is a semi accessible is a heritage-listed six-roomed stone cottage located on the northern shore of Lake Burley Griffin in the no man’s land between the lake and the edge of the city, surrounded by gardens, grasslands & a lot of rabbits!

The cottage was built by George P. Campbell in about 1858 for his ploughman William Ginn on the original Molonglo River floodplain.  The six-room stone cottage & slab shed have evolved through several extensions & today, the various rooms are set up to display furniture & items from the different periods each part of the cottage represents. The attention to detail in each room means despite the small spaces, you can take some time to look around & see how the previous residents of the cottage lived. You’ll see examples of how food was stored & prepared, what clothing was worn, furniture, children’s games & even an old chamber pot.

There are five accessible car park spaces in the car park on Wendouree Drive (via Constitution Avenue) & a wheelchair accessible path to the front of the cottage for a close view of the oldest sections of the cottage, gardens & orchard. The heritage cottage was constructed in 1860s & does not meet accessibility standards, however, there is a virtual tour of the inside of the cottage.

Please note that while there are accessible car spaces & viewing points, access to the cottage itself does not meet accessibility requirements because of the building’s heritage status.

There are walking & bike paths & picnic seating nearby, accessible toilets can be found 500m away at Parkes Way & Boundless Playground.  

Blundells Cottage

Mugga Mugga Cottage is a semi accessible 1850s stone cottage that tells the story of Canberra after federation through the intact domestic collection of the Curley family who loved there from 1913 to the 1980s.

Mugga-Mugga's simple dwelling has been adapted & extended over time. Settlement on the site commenced in 1838 & its centerpiece is a modest cottage built for the head shepherd of Duntroon.

The small stone cottage has been conserved & furnished with household items that belonged to the Curley family who moved to Mugga-Mugga from Duntroon in 1913.

Access to the cottage is via a paved pathway approach. However, there are steps into the actual property which may make entry into the house an issue.  There are outbuildings & garden to look around.

Accessible toilets can be found under 1km away at Sundown Villas on Narrabundah Lane or over 2km away at Narrabundah Shopping Centre.  Regular street parking is only available, there is no accessible parking closeby.  

Mugga Mugga Cottage 

The Australian Vietnam Forces National Memorial is located on Anzac Parade, Campbell in Canberra.  This memorial is dedicated to all those Australians who served in Vietnam from 1962 to 1973.

The Memorial is accessed via paved pathway approach. Three concrete stelae, rising from a shallow moat, form the dramatic centre & enclose a space for quiet contemplation.  A low stone block is both a seat & a place for laying memorial tributes.  Fixed to the right wall are 33 inscriptions, quotations intended to recall events of military & political importance.  The photograph, etched on the rear wall, shows soldiers waiting to be airlifted to the Australian base at Nui Dat after Operation Ullmarah. The walls offer anchors for wires that suspend a halo of stones: A scroll containing the names of Australians who died in Vietnam is sealed into one of the stones.  Six seats surround the memorial, each dedicated to an Australian serviceman missing in action in Vietnam.

Accessible toilets can be found 1km away at the Canberra Centre on Bunda Street & Campbell Neighbourhood Oval.  Accessible parking can be found at the Australian War Memorial.  

Australian Vietnam Forces National Memorial

Changi Chapel is an accessible memorial, originally constructed by prisoners of war in Changi Camp, Singapore Island, in 1944.  After the war, it was returned to Australia, erected in the grounds of the Royal Military College & dedicated as a national memorial to all Australian prisoners of war.

The memorial is sited on a grass clearing with large established eucalyptus trees, accessed via a paved level pathway approach.  Access may be subject to Defence's operational and security requirements.

Accessible toilets can be found at Campbell Neighbourhood Oval.  Regular parking can be found closeby.

Changi Chapel

The National Police Memorial is an accessible memorial located King's Park on the northern shore of Lake Burley Griffin adjacent to the National Carillon on Aspen Island.

The memorial pays tribute to Australian Police officers who have been killed on duty or have died as a result of their duties.  Subdued lighting adds atmosphere every evening from dusk where each of the 700+ touchstones are individually lit. The rear of the wall is lit with an image of St Michael, the Patron Saint of Policing.

There is paved level pathway access to & around the memorial. Accessible toilets & parking can be found 200m away at Boundless Playground on Parkes Way.  Further disabled parking spots can be found on Wendouree Drive.

There are a number of accessible cafe & restaurants nearby.

National Police Memorial Australia

The National Boer War Memorial can be found on Anzac Parade accessed via paved level pathway approach.

The memorial of  1.5 life size bronze horses and riders sculptures are dedicated to those Australians who volunteered and fought in the nation's first war.

The two large, copper clad walls emerge from the surrounding landscape to define the memorial space. The walls are aligned to the dominant parallel geometry of Anzac Parade to create a simple yet strong framing of the memorial.  

The different heights of the walls reflect their different functions; the higher back wall is a backdrop to the bronze sculptures, and the lower front wall frames the ceremonial forecourt while allowing interpretation to be read along its top. The faces of each wall will be a composite of several large, hand-forged copper sheets, joined with rivets and finished in a green copper patina.

National Boer War Memorial

National Carillon is an accessible architectural landmark and a unique musical instrument situated on Queen Elizabeth II Island in Lake Burley Griffin, central Canberra.

Accessed via paved level pathways approach the National Carillon was a gift of the British Government to the people of Australia in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the National Capital and includes automatic Westminster chimes like Big Ben.

The National Carillon is a bell tower housing 57 bells, including one installed in 2020, which carries a welcome to Ngunnawal Country, known as the Ngunnawal Bell. These bells are played by a carillonist, using a keyboard known as a clavier, inside the tower. 

There is a large car park at the venue with accessible bays.  Accessible toilets can be found 200m away at Kings Park,  just under 400m away at Boundless Playground & National Gallery of Australia. 

National Carillon

The Sculpture Garden is situated between the National Gallery and the shores of Lake Burley Griffin.

The diagonal of the main pathway and the floor plan of the garden repeats the triangular architecture of the main building.  The accessible paved level pathways are available all around the gardens.

Underground paid parking is accessed via Parkes Place. Payment for parking is by card only, and is free from 5pm for after-hours events, or for those with a valid disability parking permit.

Accessible parking is available in the underground parking station. The eight reserved accessible spaces are close to lift access, bringing you to the main entry. Present your parking ticket and disability parking permit at the front desk in the main foyer at the end of your visit for validation.

Accessible bathrooms can be found in the National Gallery along with Cafe Fitout & Kitchen by Pop-up Mike with covered outdoor seating, lifts & ramps inside the Gallery

Sculpture Garden, National Gallery of Australia 

The New Zealand Memorial in Canberra,  commemorates the relationship between New Zealand and Australia, and stands at the corner of Anzac Parade and Constitution Avenue.

The memorial is accessible via paved level pathway approach.  

Accessible parking can be found at Car Park 64 on Parkes Way & accessible bathrooms on Parkes Way, Reid, Glebe & Kings Park.

New Zealand Memorial

The Desert Mounted Corps Memorial is the first memorial to be constructed on Anzac Parade (in April 1968). It commemorates all Australian and New Zealand units and formations that served in Egypt, Palestine and Syria from 1916 to 1918. The monument commemorates the partnership expressed in the word ‘ANZAC’.

The memorial is access via paved level pathway approach with steps leading up at the front. 

Accessible parking can be found at Car Park 64 on Parkes Way, accessible toilets on Parkes Way, Reid & Glebe Park.

Desert Mounted Corps Memorial

Axxe is an accessible Urban Axe throwing venue offering a unique experience of throwing solid steel axes at wooden targets & playing fun axe throwing games.  

Axxe offers step free entry via paved pathway approach to glass double doors & easy access to the counter.  There is also step free entry to the throwing lanes.  There are high tables & stool seating along with sofas & armchairs.

Drinks & snacks are available to purchase, the venue is not licenced so no alcohol is permitted on the premises.

The venue also offers Breakr which is a ‘break out’ room which is a dedicated space for breaking plates, mugs, glasses, vases & other fragile items.  These can either be thrown at the wall or smashed with tools provided.

Accessible parking spot can be found just further along the road from the venue.  Accessible toilets can be found 400m away at Maryborough Street bus station on Wollongong Street.

Axxe - Urban Axe Throwing

The Bridge to Bridge in Canberra is a 5.0km loop trail that is considered generally an easy route with wide paved pathways & takes an average of just over an hour to complete.

One of Canberra's classic walks, from "Bridge to Bridge" over the Molonglo River/Lake Burley Griffin.  The route can be started from various points around the lake, the mapped route begins from the parking area at Wendouree Drive. 

The loop features some of Canberra's most iconic views of the bridge, the National Library, the National Museum and the fountain (Captain Cook Memorial Jet).  There are plenty of places to stop along the way for a rest or a picnic with benches, tables & Commonwealth Park.

Accessible toilets can be found along the route depending where you are including at Parliament House, Old Parliament House Rose Garden, Boundless Playground on Parkes Way, Australian War Memorial & Botanic Gardens.

Bridge to Bridge Loop

Jerrabomberra Wetlands is an accessible nature reserve located near the Canberra CBD.  The filling of Lake Burley Griffin in 1964 led to an artificially high water table on the MolongloRiver floodplain resulting in the Jerrabomberra Wetlands.  The reserve is an important sanctuary for local birds as well as bird species migrating from the northern hemisphere & from inland Australia & includes over 170 different bird species.

The Jerrabomberra Wetlands walk consists of a 3.2km loop trail considered a moderately challenging route, taking an average of 40 min to complete.  All the mapped walks are pram & wheelchair accessible.  The Wetlands office has a ramp for access & additional parking.

This trail begins at the designated parking area of the reserve, head west along Kellys Loop & continuing onto Woodland Loop until you get to the Tadorna bird hide. From here you'll double back & do a short loop following the shores of Jerrabomberra Creek before completing the full circuit of Kellys Loop.  There are different style paths from paved to gravel with covered seating along the way & bird watching huts

Free off-street parking is available at the end of Dairy Road in Fyshwick and also Eyre Street in Kingston.  Accessible tilets can be found 2km away at Marlborough Street bus station & Boundless Playground on Parkes Way.

Jerrabomberra Wetlands Nature Reserve

The Sebel Campbell is a modern and seemingly well maintained, no-frills room only hotel situated between the airport and the CBD (1 km away).

The room I stayed in was clean and functional, with plenty of space to manoeuvre my wheelchair. There was space on either side of the large double bed to fit my wheelchair. The bathroom was also easy to get into and navigate around.

The Sebel Canberra Campbell

Lava Coffee is an accessible coffee house located on the popular Eyre Street Market.

The cafe offers step free entry via paved pathway approach with easy access to the counter.  The décor is cool, contemporary & minimalist with lovely art adorning the walls. There are freestanding tables & chairs inside, fixed banquette seating, high bench tables, stools & many large, picnic-style tables outdoors.

Lava's focus is on quality specialty coffee, made with & a small “eat-all-day” menu including goods from Three Mills Bakery.

Accessible parking can be found closeby on Highate Lane.  Accessible toilets just under 2km away at Kings, Park,  Old Parliament House Rose Gardens, National Gallery of Australia & Boundless Playground.

Wonderburger is an accessible burger joint serving burgers, dogs, chickenettes, fries, fried chicken, hotdogs, onion rings, sweet potato chips, jalapeno poppers, shakes & soft serves located in Green Square, Kingston. 

The venue offers step free entry via paved level pathway approach.  The interior gives off a nostalgic feel of an old-school diner with a modern twist, high benches & stool seating, easy access to the counter & plenty of space to sit outside.

The venue offers step free via paved pathway approach to a  single slightly wider door.  Inside there are freestanding table & chairs, fixed banquette seating with chairs opposite, spacious with room to move around & easy access to the counter.  Outdoor there are shaded tables & chairs accessed via level paved approach.  

Accessible toilets can be found under 500m away at Maryborough Street Train Station.  Plenty of regular parking is onsite.

There is regular parking outside, accessible parking is  much further away.  Accessible toilets canbe found just over 500m away at Maryborough Street Train Station.
