Sentosa Island in Singapore
BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Sentosa Island is one of Singapore's most beloved leisure destinations — and the good news for wheelchair users is that much of it is completely free to enjoy. From stunning beaches and lush nature trails to the mesmerising Sensoryscape light garden, a day on Sentosa can be as full or as relaxed as you like. The island is flat, well-connected, and increasingly inclusive, making it one of the most accessible free days out in all of Asia. Pack sunscreen, bring your sense of adventure, and prepare to be pleasantly surprised. 🌴
HOW TO GET THERE? — Parking & Transport
🚇 By MRT + Monorail (Recommended) Make your way to HarbourFront MRT Station (North-East Line NE1 / Circle Line CC29). Head into VivoCity and take the lift to Level 3, where you will find the Sentosa Express monorail station. The monorail is fully accessible with dedicated wheelchair spaces. Entry to Sentosa costs S$4 per person — the return trip is free.
We don't generally recommend driving or using the boardwalk as your main arrival option, but they're worth knowing about:
🚶 Free Alternative — Sentosa Boardwalk The 700-metre boardwalk from VivoCity is fully wheelchair accessible, with canopy-covered two-way travellators. Free of charge.
🚗 By Car Drive via Sentosa Gateway. Accessible parking bays are available at Resorts World Sentosa and Beach Station car parks, with lifts to all levels.

TOILETS
Accessible toilets are available throughout the island and are clearly signposted at all locations. All accessible toilet facilities are available at no cost.
On the island:
🏨 Resorts World Sentosa (near Universal Studios entrance) Right after exiting the station and heading towards the Universal Studios entrance, there is a large, clearly visible sign pointing to the toilets. They are clean, well-maintained, and of course fully accessible. On this part of the island, there are also restrooms inside the shopping mall — both upstairs and downstairs in the mid section — all clearly indicated with wayfinding signage.
🏖️ Beach area At the Beach Station itself there are accessible toilets, and further along the beachfront as well. They are kept clear and tidy, though be aware that surfaces can be slippery due to sand and water — still quite safe overall, just worth taking a little extra care.
At VivoCity (before boarding): Accessible toilets are located on all levels of VivoCity Shopping Centre, making it easy to plan your comfort stop before or after your visit.
✅ All accessible toilets across the island meet accessibility standards and are available free of charge — no exceptions.
FAQ'S
Is Sentosa Island free for wheelchair users? Entry to the island costs S$4 via the Sentosa Express monorail (return is free). Alternatively, the Sentosa Boardwalk from VivoCity is completely free and fully accessible. Once on the island, beaches, nature trails, Sensoryscape, and the Sentosa Musical Fountain are all free.
Is the monorail wheelchair accessible? And how do I secure a space? Yes — the Sentosa Express has dedicated wheelchair spaces and wheelchair users are always given priority boarding. Staff are easy to find, attentive, and will guide you through the process in both directions. It is seamless from start to finish — no need to worry.
Can wheelchair users access the beach? Yes! Sentosa has Singapore's first accessible beach track at Siloso Beach — a slip-resistant path bringing wheelchair users closer to the water. Floating wheelchairs are also available for an even closer experience.
Is there a discount programme for visitors with disabilities? Yes — the Sentosa Cares Benefits Programme offers complimentary or discounted access to various paid attractions for eligible persons with disabilities and their caregivers. Applications must be submitted at least 7 days before your visit via the Sentosa website.
How do I get around the island for free? The Sentosa Express monorail runs free between all island stations. Free Sentosa buses and shaded pedestrian paths also connect all major attractions.
What free things can wheelchair users enjoy on Sentosa?
🌊 Siloso Beach and Palawan Beach (via paved paths)
🌿 Sentosa Nature Discovery trail and boardwalk
🌈 Sensoryscape light garden (open 24/7)
⛲ Sentosa Musical Fountain (daily from 4pm)
🌅 Sunset watching from beachfront benches
🛤️ Scenic stroll along the Sentosa Boardwalk
How long does it take to reach the beach area? The beach is the last stop on the island, and it takes at least 30 minutes at a comfortable rolling pace to get there from the Resorts World Sentosa end. Budget accordingly — and use the free monorail to get between stations rather than rolling the full distance.
Can Sentosa be visited in one day? Yes — and we recommend it! Allow a full day to do it justice, especially if you want to combine the outdoor areas with the beach. Our suggested order: start with a stroll around the outdoor areas of Universal Studios and Resorts World Sentosa, then make your way to the beaches. Siloso and Palawan beaches tend to get busy as the day goes on, so heading there in the afternoon means you'll have a better chance of finding a comfortable spot. Wrap up the day at the Sentosa Musical Fountain from 4pm, and if you're visiting after dark, Sensoryscape is open 24/7 and truly comes alive at night. 🌅
What is the best time to visit? Mornings tend to be busy with school groups and families with young children, while afternoons fill up quickly across the beaches and attractions. That said, there is no bad time to visit — just go in with realistic expectations and plan accordingly. If you are heading back late afternoon, be aware that this is peak hour on the monorail — but as a wheelchair user you will always have priority boarding, so you will not be left behind. 🌅
