Lake Cathie Foreshore Reserve

The lagoon is periodically open to the sea and generally offers shallow, calm water suitable for people of all ages and abilities to relax in. At times, shifting sands can close the lagoon off from the ocean, causing the water to darken due to natural tannins from surrounding vegetation.

Toilets are located next to the carpark and playground, and include separate male and female ambulant toilets as well as a unisex, left-hand accessible toilet. A water fountain is available out front. Accessible parking is positioned behind the picnic area, close to the shaded tables, bins, and BBQs.

The reserve includes 13 picnic tables and 5 BBQs, though shade is limited outside of these picnic areas. Reaching the water's edge requires crossing both grass and sand (which appears mostly firm with some variation), which may be difficult for wheelchair or mobility aid users. A concrete path connects the main areas of the reserve - carpark, toilets, picnic area, and playground - providing a firm, accessible surface between these points.

The playground includes a large play structure with two slides, four swings (including a baby swing and an accessible swing), an accessible carousel, and a rope climbing balance structure. It also features a low-impact workout circuit designed for senior citizens and rehabilitation purposes, focusing on movement, flexibility, coordination, and dexterity alongside traditional strength, resistance, and cardio training.

There does not appear to be any beach wheelchair or mat hire available at this location.
