North Wollongong Beach has a shared pathway and concrete concourse running along the length of the beach, providing flat access for wheelchairs, mobility aids, and prams along the beachfront area.
Beach Access Equipment
Free beach wheelchairs are available and can be booked for use during patrol hours. It is recommended to book in advance through the Wollongong City Council website.
Beach wheelchairs and beach matting are typically available 8:00am – 6:00pm daily during the high season (Sat 31 Jan – Fri 20 Mar 2026).
Beach matting can also be arranged at this location on request. Visitors can speak to the lifeguards or contact Wollongong City Council for assistance.
Parking
Accessible parking spaces are available along Cliff Road, next to Stuart Park and in surrounding car parks near the beach.
The path from accessible parking to the beach matting is mostly flat, although some sections include a small incline.
Public Transport
Public transport is available nearby. A bus stop is located along Cliff Road, approximately halfway down the beach area.
The free Gong Shuttle bus (routes 55A and 55C) services this stop and runs throughout Wollongong and Fairy Meadow.
Toilets and Showers
Accessible toilets and showers are available near North Beach at the following locations:
- North Beach Bathers Pavilion – open during daylight hours
- Wollongong City Beach (Surf Club) – open during daylight hours
Seating and Rest Areas
There are accessible picnic tables at Stuart Park, with additional accessible picnic tables located along North Wollongong Beach.
General Access
The beachfront area includes wide paved paths and open spaces, allowing movement along the foreshore without needing to travel on sand. Beach wheelchairs and matting help provide assisted access onto the sand when available.
