    Nan Tien Temple

Nan Tien Temple in Berkeley is a large Buddhist temple complex with generally step-free access between the main areas. The temple grounds are spacious, and many public areas can be accessed using ramps or lifts.

    Parking

There are three main car parks available at the temple complex, all of which include accessible parking spaces.

Two accessible parking spaces are located directly in front of the temple building, accessed by crossing the white bridge. These spaces provide the closest access to the main temple entrance.

Additional accessible parking spaces are available in the other car parks throughout the complex.

    Public Transport

Public transport is available nearby. A bus stop is located approximately a 4-minute walk away on Nolan Street.

Premier Illawarra runs public bus services across Wollongong using modern, low-floor, air-conditioned buses, with some routes featuring step-free entry buses for wheelchair users. Before planning your trip, it is recommended to call (02) 4271 1322 to check whether an accessible bus is operating on your chosen route.

    Entry and Internal Access

Access throughout the temple complex is generally step-free, with wide pathways between buildings and garden areas.

There is a ramp that runs around the middle level (Level 2), allowing access across this area without needing to use stairs.

The temple buildings include two lifts:

    • One lift is located near the restaurant and provides access to Level 2, where the toilets are located.
    • A glass lift provides access to the upper level, where the Main Shrine Hall (the main prayer area of the temple) is located.

These lifts allow wheelchair users and people using mobility aids to access the different levels of the complex.

The Main Shrine Hall itself has a flat entrance, allowing step-free access into the prayer area.

    Toilets

Accessible toilets are located on Level 2 of the temple complex and can be reached using the lift near the restaurant.

There are two accessible toilets available on this levelone located toward the left end of the building and one toward the right end.

    Dining

There is a restaurant located on the bottom floor of the temple complex. Access to the restaurant area is step-free, and the surrounding areas are generally spacious.
