Wallsend Active Hub is located in Federal Park in Wallsend, next to Wallsend Pool & offers plenty to do with a variety of play equipment for all ages.

There is a brightly coloured climbing structure with ramps & stairs, ropes & bridges, rope climbing frame, with bark & softfall flooring & flat concrete lead-in pathways.  A swing block with two regular swings, a baby swing, group swing & an accessibility swing. There is also an all-abilities spinning carousel in the playspace.

For older kids there is a rectangular climbing frame with spiders web, climbing nets, mini climbing wall & balancing components & mini in-ground trampolines.

The hub has a playspace that includes pump track for bikes, scooters & skateboards, multi-sports courts for basketball & futsal, rebound wall, climbing wall & fitness stations.

There is seating all around the playground with clear view of playground to pump track to sport courts & easy roll pathways throughout.  There are covered picnic shelters, drinking fountain near the climbing wall & bike racks.

There are currently no toilets or BBQs at the park, these will be delievered in Phase 2. Nearest toilets are at Wallsend Pool when it’s open, accessible toilets at Wallsend Village Shopping Centre & the Library.

Wallsend Active Hub, Federal Park Playground

Stevenson Park in Mayfield West is an all-abilities active space playground located near to the sports field for baseball, softball & soccer. 

The playground has a large shade sail covering it & features a variety of equipment including swings, bird nest basket, climbing structure, in-ground trampoline, slide, balance balls & spinning cycle.

Thereis also a half-basketball court with hoop & handball court with sandstone block seating all around.  All of this is accessed via wide easy roll pathways & softfall flooring. 

Shade shelters, covered picnic shelters, seating, drinking fountain & BBQ facilities are all available at the park with lead-in wide pathways.  The park is surrounded by grass, shady trees & wide paths for easy rolling & plenty of non designated street parking.  

There are regular toilets onsite with baby change table attached to a kiosk. Accessible toilets can be found just under 2km away at Braye Park Clarence Road & Mayfield Library Hanbury Street.  

Further development plans for Stevenson Park are a car park, off-leash area for dogs & paved easy roll footpath connections to the sporting infrastructure.

Avon Street Reserve Playground in Mayfield offers a great range of swings to suit all ages.  Babies and toddlers can swing in the baby/toddler swing or partner up with an older sibling on the double swing which incorporates a baby and regular swing facing each other. There’s also a popular group swing and a regular child swing.

The playground also offers two slides, musical play activities balancing and climbing equipment, underground pipes and talk tubes.  There are ladders, climbing nets, gangways, balance beams & balls.  There is a merry-go-round with softfall base, monkey bars, noughts and crosses & play shop.

The playground is fenced on three sides, the base a mix of woodchip and softfall.  There are easy roll lead-in pathways, benches & shade provided by established and smaller trees. and large grassed areas. 

There are no toilets onsite but accessible toilets can be found at Mayfield Shopping Centre, Mayfield Library & McDonald's Mayfield.  There is a small, grassed car park near playground for 3 cars plus on-street parking.

Harold Myers Park in Birmingham Gardens can be accessed via Sandgate Road & the the playground from Wilkinson Avenue, featuring multiplay equipment designed to encourage interaction between children.

This includes slides, gangways, climbing nets, a climbing wall, ladders, ground level shop, fireman's pole, sit-on bouncy, noughts and crosses, balancing beams,  spinner & ninja-style climbing cube.  

There is a selection of swings including a regular, group swing & baby/toddler swing.  The base of the playground is a mixture of softfall & woodchip, surrounded by grass however there is a slight concrete ridge into the playground.  

The park is not fenced but the playground is placed away from the road.  There is no shade over the playground but the trees do offer some shade.  There are no picnic facilities, BBQs or toilets.  Closest accessible toilets can be found at  Stockland Jesmond, 28 Blue Gum Road.  Parking is on-street on Wilkinson Avenue.

"Tarro Recreation Area is a large community park used for sport, recreation, and family outings. Entry into the grounds is step-free, with wide open access points and smooth pathways that connect the main areas, making it suitable for wheelchairs, prams, and mobility aids. The park includes sporting fields, open green space, a playground, and shaded picnic facilities. Some surfaces around the fields are grass or gravel, which may be harder to navigate in wet weather. Seating and picnic shelters are available, and public toilets, including an accessible toilet, are located on-site. Parking is provided in a nearby car park and along surrounding streets, with some designated accessible spaces close to the entrance. Overall, Tarro Recreation Area offers a spacious and welcoming environment with practical accessibility features for a wide range of visitors.

"Hexham McDonald’s is a busy roadside restaurant, popular with travellers and locals for quick meals and drive-through service. 

Entry into the restaurant is step-free, with wide automatic doors that make access simple for wheelchairs and prams. Inside, the layout is mostly open with space between tables, though it can feel tight during peak meal times. Seating includes a mix of standard tables, booths, and some higher benches, with flexible options available. An accessible toilet is provided on-site. Parking is available directly outside in the restaurant’s car park, including clearly marked accessible spaces close to the entrance.

Hexham McDonald’s offers convenient dining with good accessibility features, making it a practical stop for visitors of all abilities.
