Access to the station is via the lift.  Station access lift can be hard to locate from within the station to leave as there is no signage for it.
Platform access is via lift, strong signage, easy to find.
Train access is via portable ramp and raised platform.

Parliament Station

Station access has ramps or flat though there are numerous stairs requiring detours to alternate access points.
Platform access, ramps to the platforms on the Elizabeth St end, lifts on the Swanston St end, but numerous stairs requiring detours to alternate access points.
Train access, portable ramp at driver end of the platform. Trains going via the city loop have the driver at the end of the platform with less room to manoeuvre.
Accessible toilet, wheelchair access, at Elizabeth St end & Swanston St.  Access Elizabeth St from Swanston St end by taking the lift to platform 2, travelling down the platform towards the Elizabeth St end, and down the ramp.
No key needed until last train.  After hours limited access via cleaners. 
Accessible parking csn be found at Southgate Underground.  



Flinders Street Railway Station

Royal Exhibition Building is an accessible venue with step-free access, no ramps & has lifts.  
Lifts are available to other levels but some floors may not be accessible.  The areas are spacious.  
There are accesible toilets at 271 Spring Street, parking at Melbourne Museum & 50 Lonsdale Street.

IMAX Melbourne is an accessible venue with  step free access to automatic doors & accessible signs. 
The venue provides wheelchairs.  There is an accessible cafe and shop. Areas arevery spacious and can fit wheelchairs easily.   There is accessible toilets onsite & accessible parking nearby.




IMAX Melbourne

Museo Italiano is an accessible permanent exhibition which draws on and displays the records, images and objects from CO.AS.IT.'s Italian Historical Society.
There is step free entrance, permanent ramp to
automatic doors which is signposted.   
There are venue wheelchairs to use & an accessible shop.  	
Accessible toilet onsite, wheelchair access/ambulant access, and the toilet has a shower.
Accessible parking nearby on the street, further parking can be found at 215 Elgin Street.  


Museo Italiano

We had a mixed experience when we visited the Melbourne Museum earlier this year.  I can only conditionally recommend it as an accessible venue, which is very disappointing.

There is very good disabled parking underneath the building, and the lift to travel to the museum is a reasonable size.

However, the lift within the museum is tiny and not appropriate for a large wheelchair - especially if a carer is needed to accompany the wheelchair user.

This means that a group cannot easily move through the museum together.

When we asked staff for another way to access the upper level, we were directed to a ramp that lead to a wet and cold outdoor garden.  We discovered an indoor ramp by ourselves later in our visit, so *thumbs down* for staff being helpful.

The disabled toilets that we found were ludicrously small.  I would not call them accessible.  There may have been other accessible toilets around but see the point about the unhelpful staff.  Additional accessible toilets can be found at Argyle Place

Finally, some spaces were set up so that it was very difficult to navigate the wheelchair - and we almost ran over a small child as a result!

It was a very disappointing outing.

Arts Centre Melbourne

State Theatre

The Fairfax Studio is an intimate theatre in a classic modern style, presenting contemporary and experimental productions.
The access is straightforward with manual doors.
There is signage about accessible entry. There is also an elevator for each level. Level 3 gives you access to fairfax studio.
There is an accessible toilet at every level (which is well sign posted)
There is accessible (well sign poster) disabled car park at level 5.

Fairfax Studio

Very friendly from accessibility perspective. It has two separate accessible entrances. First is via the street and up the lift. The second is via their car park which has accessible car park. 
All of their cinemas have ramps for access. Cinema 3 has an accessibility lift (not a ramp). There is a limitation though on battery operated wheelchairs due to the weight of the wheelchairs as per the maximum weight capacity for the ramps. 
There are accessible toilets with ample space for wheelchairs and have automated doors. 
Accessible parking can be found at the underground car park at 215 Elgin Street.  

Cinema Nova

The theatre is located on Collins Street in the City of Melbourne and the streets around the theatre are fairly steep.  If you are using a manual wheelchair it’s fairly hard work pushing yourself up to the theatre from the traffic light. If you are strong enough you will be fine but it’s still fairly challenging to get around on these streets in this area. No problem for power wheelchair users though.

 The theatre itself has a small step going into the building itself from Collins Street but there’s also a cut away area on the right side of the doors leading into the building from the street, so it’s step free access from the street. However, Collins Street is a fairly steep street to go along so it’s best to have a powered wheelchair to get around in the street unless you have someone else with you that can help you push your wheelchair up to the theatre otherwise if you have strong enough arms you could try doing it yourself but it’s directly opposite the Regent Theatre as well which is also steep to get around on too.

Once inside the theatre there’s a dedicated disabled bathroom to the side of the entrance and then to get access to the theatre itself there’s a slight slope going down to the seating areas and the best seats are available in the stalls area as the dress circle is only accessible via a flight of stairs which is the situation in most Melbourne theatres. The stalls area is accessible for everyone, and they can help you to your seat if you can transfer yourself and they’ll take your wheelchair back to the foyer until the intermission if there’s one during the show or they’ll bring it back to you at the end of the show.

The only downside of this theatre is that the building is located on a steep street which is Collins Street. You can be dropped off directly outside of the theatre and there’s parking available in the nearby streets but can’t remember if there’s any disabled parking available in the immediate area.

We love this venue!

Parking is underneath and if the designated disabled area is full, the staff corden off more of the general car park in order to extend the disabled parking area.  

(Before COVID, one could pre-book a disabled parking spot and even pre-book valet parking so that the wheelchair user and carers could be dropped off right at the underground entrance to the venue. Wonderful!)

When booking seats, there is a dedicated number to call and staff have always been helpful in ensuring we book seats that meet our needs.  Companion Card is accepted.

All the staff onsite are helpful and respectful.  Almost always we have had a dedicated staff member to assist us to our seats.

The lifts are enormous so there is no problem with the whole group travelling together - wheelchair user, family and carer. 

This is how accessibility should be done!

The only drawback is that the disabled toilets are on the smaller side, but there is an MLAK facility 200m away at Hamer Hall.  (We haven't tried it.)

The Arts Centre Melbourne

Several accessible rooms. Mine was good. Slightly too much for furniture to navigate around, but generally spacious enough.

The doorway into the bath room was maybe too narrow for the widest wheelchairs. Otherwise the bath room was well laid out. The big bonus about this did not apply to me but to my wife. In the hundreds of hotel rooms we have stayed in together, she has always had to put up with only a shower. For the first time ever, we had a bath room with both!

Grand Hyatt Melbourne

Common areas are accessible.  Hotel doors are portered - heavy swing doors if unattended though.  
There is designated accessible bedrooms
with extra room space, automatic doors, and widened doorways.

The entrance has steps and the door (glass) which is required to be pushed to open manually. There is no other entrance, any other signs or ramp.  
Spacious seating areas and common dining tables.  There is no outdoor seating.
There is no accessible toilet onsite? but can be found at 274 Victoria Street or Fitzroy Library
