Common Grounds in Morpeth is a beautiful café located in Morpeth. It has an amazing aesthetic to it that brings the joy and love into every trip there. You can find this little café tucked away at 139 Swan St, next to the good owl.

Unfortunately, the Common Grounds isn't a wheelchair friendly café, with their being no disability parking at the front of the store although there are plenty of diagonal spaces which are pretty wide and long to provide a lot of space. The entry point does involve stair as well and there isn't a whole lot of space to move around inside since it is a small establishment. The entry also consists of steps with no ramp entrance and has a very small outdoor area to fit a table or two.

There are standard toilets on site but they don't have ambulant or wheelchair specific toilets

Common Grounds Morpeth

Ray Lawler Reserve, Morpeth Common has much to offer including wide accessible pathways  to the playground, picnic spots & amenities.

The nature-based playground features two small climbing pyramids with softfall & woodchip base, spider web swing, balancing structures consisting of steps & beams made from timber logs & a rope bridge. .  There is a dry creek bed made from small and large rocks & stones, wide paths for easy rolling access, scootering & skating, connecting to different elements of the park.

There is a lovely large, fenced duck pond that is home to many breeds of duck including Chestnut Teal, Black Ducks, Pekin Ducks and Moorhens. If you follow the path at the back of the playground, around to the right, you will come to a small bridge and, from here, you’ll have the best view of the ducks swimming.

Over the bridge there is a large grassed area shaded by big fig trees.  There is also lots of shaded picnic tables overlooking the playground & nearby cow and horse paddock plus two undercover barbecues.  The toilet block comprises a unisex toilet/parents room, a unisex accessible toilet & three unisex toilets.  Ther eis also a large sealed carpark, water fountain & a number of cafes in Swan Street, less than 5 mins away by car.  

Ray Lawler Reserve, Morpeth Common

Maitland Park All Abilities Playground is a great fully fenced, shaded, accessible playground.

To start the playground offers a liberty swing & flying fox designed for children with a disability all accessed by wide level access pathways.  The park features three swings (two of which are baby/toddler swings), roundabout, toddler playground, second flying fox, climbing structure with walls, steps, rope ladders, bridge, slides & balacing rocks & crocodiles & sensory area with ladybird xylophone & bongo drums.

The park also offers a pretend road complete with signs, crossings, speed bumps & refueling station.  There is a wide path that winds around the park grounds & neat gardens which is great for easy rolling & you can follow this path to the War Memorial & back.

There is a large shaded car park, accessible toilets, water fountain, undercover picnic tables, BBQs & grassy areas shaded by huge, old leafy trees.  The park is also located directly opposite Maitland Aquatic Centre.

Maitland Park Playground

Bakers Brickyard Park in Raworth offers a large, shaded, fully fenced accessible playground with level easy roll pathway & bike track all around the park.  

The playground consists of a climbing structure with stairs, rope bridges, climbing wall, flying fox, swing & toddler playground with benches dotted around.

There are accessible toilet amenities, covered picnic tables & benches, BBQs, large car park with designated spots.

There is also a fenced off-leash dog area with drinking tap. 

Bakers Brickyard Park

Heron Close Park is located on Bali Close with a large grassed area, basketball court with hoops, seating & level concrete pathways.

A sheltered playground accessed on Heron Close offers a swing set & slide on bark flooring. There is also covered picnic tables & benches.

The closest accessible toilet is at Stockland Green Hills nearly 2 kms away & only on-street parking.

Illalaung Park in Morpeth has great views over the Morpeth Bridge with tiered gardens, lawns leading down to the river & level easy roll pathways.  

There are picnic tables, benches all close to the shops, cafes & attractions of Swan Street.

Accessible toilets can be found less than 100m away on Swan Street.

The Rigby is a popular café and restaurant in Maitland, known for its relaxed atmosphere and modern menu. 

Access into the venue is step-free, with a wide entrance that suits both wheelchairs and prams. Inside, the space combines open seating areas with some tighter spots, and while it can get busy during peak times, staff are attentive and willing to help with adjustments. Tables come in a variety of heights, offering flexible seating options. An accessible toilet is available on-site. Parking is located on nearby streets; while convenient, designated accessible spaces are limited, so planning ahead may be helpful. 

The Rigby is both a social spot and dining destination, offering good accessibility features alongside a welcoming environment.

Lavender Café is located along Maitland's Levee and is a beautiful spot to have your morning tea. This spot features primarily a outdoor seating setting with a very small and condensed inside for those who rather have a inside setting. It features a tiled flooring pattern inside and around the venue which gives it a nice flat surface to walk on. The tables and seating are wooden with table space being a bit restricted.

The best options for parking is the underground carpark at Kmart which is accessible via Bulwer Street and Bourke Street or you can park near the Imperial which is through Stillbury lane, in which you'll find a carpark. Both of these options are about a 5 minute walk to the location of the café.

There are no bathrooms on-site and the closest public toilets will be in the stairwell at the Kmart with the underground parking.

Lavenders Cafe

The Hunter River Hotel is a great spot to grab lunch and chill with the family. The best way to get to this venue is to turn into Day Street and find the entrance to the parking lot just past the building.

This pub offers an abundant of services, including indoor and outdoor seating, kids playground, Restaurant, Sports Bar, Gaming room and two main bars. The inside has spacious corridors from one area to another but dining areas are a bit restricted due to table spacing. The entry point has a heavy swinging door which can make it difficult for some to enter. The venue is rather flat all around and doesn't contain steps.

There are multiple toilet areas located just past the ordering counter in the bistro and in the games room. Although the toilets in the restaurant section have a Wheelchair accessible toilet while the gaming room doesn't.

Parking is great, including accessible parking right next to the entry way and a ramp that allows you to get into the entrance. There are also plenty of spots in the carpark.

Hunter River Hotel

Pender Place is a small shopping are located in the heart of Maitland City. This small centre has services such as Bakers Delight, Woolworths, Priceline and BWS. Within the area, you can also find yourself a sushi store and a small pop-up café in the middle.

There are two main entrances to the shopping centre, both including accessible parking at the front entrances. The entry-ways are two automatic doors, with plenty of room to move through the doorways. The inside is very spacious to manage the busy periods but also allows for plenty of room to move from store to store. Additionally, there are seating within the centre that are evenly spaced and have plenty of room per table.

There are wheelchair accessible toilets on-site and are located just around the corner of bakers delight (no photo unfortunately). 

Pender Place Shopping Centre

Maitland's Regional Athletics Centre is your stop for all your sporting needs / events in Maitland. Just outside the city's core, the Athletics Centre holds two main areas, this being the athletics field and a rugby field.

The athletics field has everything planned and made to hold up your athletic needs. This ground has a 800m running oval, 2 long jump strips and even some closed off pitching areas. Additionally, the field includes a stand right by the entrance, featuring large concrete paths, seating and the Centre's office.

The Rugby field, located just above the athletics field, includes a 100m long open grass field to hold all your local rugby events in. Just like the athletics field, the stands are right where you enter with seating for all, even levelled concrete pathways that have plenty of room, bathrooms and a canteen selling all your favourite snacks/drinks. Unfortunately, this field is only operational when sporting events are on.

There are plenty of on-site parking with there being 4 separate lots, so you will never miss out on your favourite event or sports. Each parking lot has it's own sets of accessible parking areas that are relatively close to the entrances of both ground areas.

Wheelchair accessible toilets are on site but due to the nature of events, they typically aren't open on busy days with the next closest available being at Harold Gregson Park.

Maitland Regional Athletics Centre

Just being outside of Morpeth is the Bakers Brickyard Park. This playground is fenced off little area next to an off-leash dog area, so it's a place for the whole family to have fun, even the dogs.

This playground has an undercover area with things to climb up and slide down all around it. Additionally, there is also more equipment to play around on out of cover like a tyre swing and flying fox. The flooring of the park consists mainly of soft-fall rubber, making it accessible for everyone with concrete pathing to get from section to section.

For the rest of the fam, the location has a onsite BBQ station and undercover seating, call connect with paved concrete paths. Perfect for cooking up some snags as you watch the kids from a safe and sheltered area.

This location also has accessible parking, toilets and bins onsite to handle all your needs. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet alongside male and female toilets, with all bathrooms being very clean for public toilets.

Cupz N' Crepes is one of the many outstanding cafe's that is located in Morpeth. This Café offers a wide variety of breakfast and drink items to match your tastebuds.

This small café offers a indoor and outdoor seating areas with a fairly decent amount of room around the building. Most areas of the café can only be accessed through steps which isn't the most accessible, so the best spot to eat is out the front.

There is very limited parking areas at the front, with only horizontal street parking available. There also no toilets inside the café. 

Cupz N' Crepes

Reading Cinemas Maitland is a good reason to get out of your comfort zone and enjoy the movies. The cinemas are a flat level with a big entrance, with push to open doors. The tickets can be purchased via the main counter top, where you can purchase all your snacks, popcorn and desserts. The rooms are clearly labelled are can be seen as soon as you walk in. There is also plenty of space in the lobby to move around and find your way to your auditorium. All rooms consist of wheelchair accessible seating and are easily accessible.

NOTE: The counters within the venue are a bit high staff are willing to help you out with your ticket and further purchases.

The toilets are located near the arcade area, with a sign highlighting where they are. They have a ramp down to them and are easily accessible. While maintained well, the toilets also offer wheelchair accessible restrooms.

The best place to park is right outside the cinema or the next best parking is across the road near the Church, unfortunately there is no accessible parking in either of the parking lots, there are still plenty of spots available.

Reading Cinemas Maitland

Hoyts Greenhills is a very accessible cinema that prioritises comfort for it's guests. The cinema can be easily accessed via the rooftop of Stockland Greenhills with a big entrance consisting of automatic doors. You can access the rooftop either by the lift located on Level 2 near City Beach or Level 1 near H&M and by the rooftop parking.

Upon entry, you'll find kiosks to purchase tickets from before heading into the candy and snack bar. The auditoriums within Hoyts Greenhills do have wheelchair accessible seating and sometimes accessibility screenings (closed-captions, open-caption, and sight-loss audio description) , so keep that in mind when purchasing your ticket. All areas within Hoyts have plenty of space to move around, even when it is during busy periods.

Unfortunately, the venue doesn't consist of a disabled toilets but can be found within the shopping centre below. The best way to access those areas are the lifts located on the rooftop that can take you down to level 2 and level 1, with restrooms located near the lift location.

The best location for parking is the rooftop, which can be accessed via the ramp on Molly Morgan Drive as there is dedicated accessible parking areas and is only a short distance from the entrance of the cinema.

HOYTS Green Hills

Whitewater Park in Chisholm is a popular outdoor recreation area featuring open green spaces, a playground, and water play elements for families. 

Entry into the park is step-free, with wide, smooth pathways connecting the play zones, picnic areas, and open lawns, making it easy for wheelchairs and prams to move throughout. The water play area has flat surfaces and splash zones that are accessible, though some interactive features may be harder to use for children with limited mobility. Shaded seating, picnic shelters, and BBQ facilities are provided around the park, giving plenty of rest spots. 

Accessible toilets are nearby the park and parking is located directly beside the park, with designated accessible space near the main entry.

Whitewater Park Playground

The Regal Inn in Tenambit is a local pub and dining spot with a relaxed, community feel. 

Entry into the venue is step-free, with a wide doorway that makes access straightforward for wheelchairs and prams. Inside, the layout is mostly open with good space between tables, though it can feel tighter around the bar area during busy times. Seating options vary in height, and staff are approachable if assistance is needed. An accessible toilet is available on-site. 

Parking is available directly outside and along nearby streets, though marked accessible spaces are limited. Overall, The Regal Inn provides a friendly and welcoming environment with solid accessibility features that make it comfortable for most visitors.

Harvest Playground is located on Harvest Boulevard with a large grassed area, seating, water dispenser and levelled concrete pathing.

A unsheltered and ungated playground offering a climbing web, tyre swing and a spinning top on a soft-fall rubber flooring. 

There are no public toilets at the park but the closest accessible toilets is Tilly's Play Development Centre. There is a parking lot at the location. On-street parking is also available to use.

Harvest playground

East Maitland Library is located at Garnett Road & is an accessible venue with step free access & double door.  

There are level paved pathways around the library, grassed area to the rear & shaded playground.  There is an accessible cafe onsite, the Reader's Cafe & Larder which offers a verandah with outside tables overlooking lush parkland & the playground.  

There is a regular toilet onsite, closest accessible ones can be found at Stockland Green Hills 200m away.  Parking can be found at the library.
