Roy Jordan Sports Complex in Gillieston is a large community facility with sporting fields, training areas, and open space for local clubs and families.

Maitland Park All Abilities Playground is a great fully fenced, shaded, accessible playground.

To start the playground offers a liberty swing & flying fox designed for children with a disability all accessed by wide level access pathways.  The park features three swings (two of which are baby/toddler swings), roundabout, toddler playground, second flying fox, climbing structure with walls, steps, rope ladders, bridge, slides & balacing rocks & crocodiles & sensory area with ladybird xylophone & bongo drums.

The park also offers a pretend road complete with signs, crossings, speed bumps & refueling station.  There is a wide path that winds around the park grounds & neat gardens which is great for easy rolling & you can follow this path to the War Memorial & back.

There is a large shaded car park, accessible toilets, water fountain, undercover picnic tables, BBQs & grassy areas shaded by huge, old leafy trees.  The park is also located directly opposite Maitland Aquatic Centre.

Joesph Maxwell Park VC in Gillieston Heights offers a large grassy area & level paved lead-in pathways to a playground.

The playground is partly sheltered by a shade sail including swing set, slide & climbing structure with rope ladders & bridge along with picnic tables & benches.

Parking is on-street & there are no accessible toilets close-by, the closest are over 2.5kms away.  

Joseph Maxwell VC Park

The Rigby is a popular café and restaurant in Maitland, known for its relaxed atmosphere and modern menu. 

Access into the venue is step-free, with a wide entrance that suits both wheelchairs and prams. Inside, the space combines open seating areas with some tighter spots, and while it can get busy during peak times, staff are attentive and willing to help with adjustments. Tables come in a variety of heights, offering flexible seating options. An accessible toilet is available on-site. Parking is located on nearby streets; while convenient, designated accessible spaces are limited, so planning ahead may be helpful. 

The Rigby is both a social spot and dining destination, offering good accessibility features alongside a welcoming environment.

This playground is located at Victor Warby Reserve, Gillieston Heights.

This non-gated playground has plenty of equipment for to play on, some being monkey bars, tyre swing, and a little climbing tower with a slide. There is plenty of shelter at the location, with a tarp over half the playground and covered seating. Flooring is soft-fall rubber with a paved cement path all around the park, making it very easily accessible.

The best place to park is at the front of the Community Hub right next to the playground, offering vertical parking spots rather than curb side. Unfortunately, there are no toilets on-site with the closest being at the small shopping area just up Redwood Drive.

Gillieston Heights Playground

Maitland's Regional Athletics Centre is your stop for all your sporting needs / events in Maitland. Just outside the city's core, the Athletics Centre holds two main areas, this being the athletics field and a rugby field.

The athletics field has everything planned and made to hold up your athletic needs. This ground has a 800m running oval, 2 long jump strips and even some closed off pitching areas. Additionally, the field includes a stand right by the entrance, featuring large concrete paths, seating and the Centre's office.

The Rugby field, located just above the athletics field, includes a 100m long open grass field to hold all your local rugby events in. Just like the athletics field, the stands are right where you enter with seating for all, even levelled concrete pathways that have plenty of room, bathrooms and a canteen selling all your favourite snacks/drinks. Unfortunately, this field is only operational when sporting events are on.

There are plenty of on-site parking with there being 4 separate lots, so you will never miss out on your favourite event or sports. Each parking lot has it's own sets of accessible parking areas that are relatively close to the entrances of both ground areas.

Wheelchair accessible toilets are on site but due to the nature of events, they typically aren't open on busy days with the next closest available being at Harold Gregson Park.

Maitland Regional Athletics Centre

In the middle of Gillieston Heights lies a small café called Sherwood Coffee. This little coffee spot is a recent addition to the Gillieston Heights area and has gain a massive attraction.

This café offers plenty of spots from indoor to outdoors, with cushioning supplied for comfort. There is a ramp near the front that allows for easy access to the venue. The entry does consist of push to open doors which aren't too heavy to push open but can be a pain if you plan to go alone.

There unfortunately isn't any accessible parking at the front but the McDonalds on the other side of the parking lot does have accessible parking. 

The café does offer a well maintained bathroom that is wheelchair accessible. This is tucked away at the beck of the venue, on the other side of some glass walls.

Sherwood Coffee - Gillieston Heights

Reading Cinemas Maitland is a good reason to get out of your comfort zone and enjoy the movies. The cinemas are a flat level with a big entrance, with push to open doors. The tickets can be purchased via the main counter top, where you can purchase all your snacks, popcorn and desserts. The rooms are clearly labelled are can be seen as soon as you walk in. There is also plenty of space in the lobby to move around and find your way to your auditorium. All rooms consist of wheelchair accessible seating and are easily accessible.

NOTE: The counters within the venue are a bit high staff are willing to help you out with your ticket and further purchases.

The toilets are located near the arcade area, with a sign highlighting where they are. They have a ramp down to them and are easily accessible. While maintained well, the toilets also offer wheelchair accessible restrooms.

The best place to park is right outside the cinema or the next best parking is across the road near the Church, unfortunately there is no accessible parking in either of the parking lots, there are still plenty of spots available.

Reading Cinemas Maitland

Overall, Wallsend Street Playground is a simple neighbourhood park with basic accessibility features, best suited for short visits by local families.

Located right next to the Maitland Athletics Centre and accessible via High St, this small park has all the needs to keep the kids busy.

This park is split up into multiple sections, with there being a park, skatepark and a full sized basketball court. The park is non-fenced and consists of climbing areas, tyre swing, and a slide for all the kids fun. The skatepark, while being connected to the park, is relatively small with two ramps, middle island and grindable objects.

The park is very accessible, with a smooth concrete path being built from the car park to access everything there is to offer. The park areas have woodchip and soft-fall rubber as flooring with seating areas around them to monitor the kids. It also features an undercover seating area with a public BBQ to cook up a fresh meal.

There is public toilets on site, all of them being unisex toilets and including a wheelchair accessible toilet. These are highly maintained and are open almost all the time.

Parking is great with their being lots of vertical parks available. Accessible parking is located towards the front and even has EV charging spots for the electric vehicles.

Harold Gregson Park

Cliftleigh Meadows Park is located and accessed via William Tester Drive with a large grassed area, undercover seating & level concrete pathing.

The playground is gated off and mostly unsheltered, hosting a variety of equipment like tyre swings, slides and things to climb on over a bark flooring. There is undercover picnic tables and seating areas on-site with a public BBQ. Bins are also at the location.

There is accessible toilets at the park and on-road parking along William Tester Drive is the best option.
