The Catani Gardens is a large heritage-listed foreshore park bordered by Jacka Boulevard, Beaconsfield Parade and Pier Road, sitting directly opposite St Kilda beach. The gardens are made up of open lawn crossed by wide walking paths and lined with rows of tall palms.
Terrain and pathways
The park is predominantly flat and lined with compacted dirt and gravel, firm underfoot and wide enough for two people to pass. The lawn either side of the paths is level and mown.
Entrances
There are ~12 entry points around the perimeter. Most are low-incline ramps with the exception of some stairs by the St Kilda Cenotaph off Jacka Blvd. Visitors arriving from the accessible parking bays on Jacka Blvd should enter through the paths at the Captain Cook Memorial.
Rotunda
The ornamental rotunda at the centre of the gardens is reached by a short flight of steps and has no ramp. It is not wheelchair accessible.
Toilets
The City of Port Phillip website lists an accessible public toilet at Catani Gardens. This is incorrect as of September 2026. There is no accessible signage on the toilet block, and all seven bathrooms are non-accessible. The nearest confirmed accessible toilet is inside the St Kilda Sea Baths complex, ~300 m south along Jacka Boulevard from this toilet block.
Parking
Two parallel accessible bays are located on Jacka Boulevard, right next to a park entrance by the Captain Cook Memorial. Another parallel accessible bay is located at 355 State Route 33, though reaching the park from this spot requires going north to the crossing by Cowderoy St intersection (~315 m trip to the park entrance). Both of these parking locations are available 24/7 and free.
Other facilities
A playground with shade sails and a BBQ area are located within the gardens. Both are covered in separate listings, as are the accessible parking bays and toilets.
