✅ Fully Accessible The main canal promenade (north bank) is wide, flat, brick-paved, and completely step-free — scenic, uncrowded, and lined with palms, gardens, and public art. Cafés and restaurants along the route have flat terrace access. Intaka Island Nature Reserve offers a confirmed wheelchair and pram-friendly 1km circular trail. Canal Walk Shopping Mall is fully accessible with lifts, accessible restrooms, and dedicated parking. Ratanga Park offers a peaceful, flat southern entry point.

⚠️ Watch Out For Decorative tram tracks are embedded in the paving in some sections — approach at an angle to avoid catching wheels.

🔴 Biggest Accessibility Gap — Canal Crossings Most canal bridges have stairs only and are impassable for wheelchair users or pushchairs. You cannot cross freely at will. Grand Central / Grand Park is the only reliable accessible crossing, connecting the north bank promenade to Canal Walk via flat bridges and boardwalks. Visitors arriving on the north bank (Northbank Gallery side) who need to reach Canal Walk must route via Grand Park. The promenade itself is excellent — but the crossing infrastructure has not kept pace with the quality of the paths. Route planning before you go is essential.

🚗 Getting There Best drop-off points are Knightsbridge Apartments (calm, roadside, directly on the canal) and Grand Central via Esplanade Road. Designated accessible parking is limited. The precinct is a 10-minute paved walk from the station, accessible via Checkers Supermarket.

The easiest and most flexible option for visitors with mobility needs. Two recommended drop-off points:

• Knightsbridge Luxury Apartments, Esplanade Road — drop off directly on the canal. Calm, low-traffic, and puts you on the promenade within seconds. The best arrival point for wheelchair users and pushchairs.
• Grand Central via Esplanade Road — a practical southern entry point, close to the accessible canal crossing and Intaka Island Nature Reserve. Good if Canal Walk or the nature reserve is your first stop.

No formally designated accessible drop-off bays are marked, but both locations offer comfortable, safe roadside stopping spots.

Canal Walk Mall offers some accessible bays including dedicated disabled parking right next to the lifts or main entrances (less than 50m of each entrance but entrance 12) if you need a parking permit to park, ask in the information desk, they got them for free. From the mall, the Grand Central / Grand Park crossing leads directly onto the promenade. Follow the part behind the Waters Edge Luxury Appartments.

🚉 By Train

Century City Station is approximately a 10-minute walk from the canal promenade. The walkway from the station is paved and flat. Follow the route past Checkers Supermarket, which brings you directly to the canal walk entry point. A straightforward, step-free approach suitable for wheelchair users and pushchairs.

The canal promenade in Century City is easily accessible on foot or by drop-off from all nearby hotels, including StayEasy Century City, Knightsbridge Luxury Apartments, Island Club Hotel, and from Esplanade Road on the southern side.
