Calafell is a wide, sandy Mediterranean beach on Catalonia’s Costa Daurada, known for its fine golden sand and gentle, shallow waters — making it a relaxed, family-friendly spot for a day by the sea. A seafront promenade lined with cafés and restaurants runs the length of the beach, so there’s plenty to enjoy beyond the sand.
Accessible beach matting is rolled out here from mid-June each year, making it much easier to travel from the promenade down towards the water. You’ll find it right at the very start of the beach, near the lifeguard post.
To get onto the sand and into the water, there are two beach wheelchairs available, along with a hoist. Accessible amenities and changing rooms are on site, right where you need them. The accessible toilet has grab rails on both sides. One thing worth noting: there’s a small 1 cm bump at the threshold as you enter — easily manageable for most, but handy to know in advance.
