Wategos Beach is located 2 km east of the Byron Bay town centre. A peaceful sheltered 600m beach that is ideal for families, a fantastic place to picnic, play in the sand and swim.

There are BBQs & picnic tables with lead up pathways, grassy areas, drinking water, showers, toilets & designated parking spaces.

 At the far end of the beach you can take the steps up to the Cape Byron Lighthouse. There is a walking track to Cape Byron Lighthouse, a 3.7km loop, however there are steps, rainforest & cliff tops so not fully accessible.  

Little Wategos, Australia’s most easterly beach, is located at the end of the cape below the lighthouse.  However, the beach is inaccessible by car, accessed by either walking over the path from Wategos or heading down from the lighthouse precinct. The Lighthouse precinct is open 8am to sunset.

Wategos Beach

Tallow Beach is a beautiful, long coastal sandy beach inbetween Byron Bay & Suffolk Park. A great place for swimming, birdwatching, whale watching & beach fishing. Tallow Beach is unpatrolled & runs south for 6.5kms from Cape Byron all the way to Broken Head and spectacular views can be had along the entire stretch. In the northernmost corner of Tallow Beach is a place affectionately known as 'Cosy Corner', which is bordered and protected by the Arakwal National Park. Toilets and picnic facilities are located at Cosy Corner picnic area. There's a number of different access points all along Tallow Beach - the carpark at the northern end is usually crowded so parking can also be found at the start of the entrance road and walk in (takes about 5-10 mins). You can also reach the sand from a few points around Suffolk Park to the south, or even much further south towards Broken Head.

Tallow Beach

Main Beach is a stunning popular beach closest to Byron Bay town. The beach offers white sand & clear blue waters. The Byron Bay Surf Club is located at Main Beach & patrols the beach every day of the year by the Australian Lifeguard Service on weekdays and volunteers on weekends and public holidays. The Sandcruiser beach wheelchair is available available to hire for free from the Lifeguard Service. There is a wide ramp access directly in front of the Surf Club providing easy access to the beach or you can follow the path along the foreshore all the way up to Clarkes Beach. The in town location of Main Beach makes it a popular spot for families as it’s so easy to take a break for lunch, an ice cream or a stroll through town. An automatic public toilet block, Male, Female, Accessibility, Open 24hrs, showers, taps & baby changing facilities There is a large grassy area, BBQs, picnic tables, drinking fountain & car park. Apex Park is adjacent to Main Beach provides a great vantage point with a large shaded playground.

Main Beach, Byron Bay

Clarkes Beach is located between Main Beach and The Pass. A nice quiet beach popular with families with fun rock and tidal pools. From town follow Lawson Street north until you come to Clarkes Beach car park. If you are on foot you can walk from Main Beach along the shore or along the coastal pathway. There are numerous short tracks from the pathway down to the beach along the way, all with showers. There is a car park with 2 mobility spaces, accessible toilets, showers & drinking fountain. A sweet little playground is located at the car park near Beach Restaurant which overlooks the beach. It has a slide and a small climbing wall, suitable for small children. There are grassy areas, picnic tables & BBQs available.

Clarkes Beach

Apex Park is situated in front of Main Beach Byron with panoramic views from Mount Warning, to Julian Rocks to Cape Byron Lighthouse.  

The grassy beachfront parkland offers free barbeques, picnic tables, showers, toilets & disabled parking adjacent to the park.  The large playground is shaded by the Norfolk Pines & an accessible pathway runs alongside the beach front & a wide ramp directly in front of the Surf Club providing easy access to the beach.  Alternatively the path runs along the foreshore all the way up to Clarkes Beach.

Accessible toilets can be found at both Apex Park & the Main Beach car park & there are plenty of eateries closeby.
