Kingston is an intriguing mix of history and modernity. 'Old' Kingston is defined by heritage homes, boutique shops and cosy cafés; Kingston Foreshore aims to be a tourist destination offering entertainment, art, cultural, and recreational activities for both visitors and locals. The flashier lakeside younger sibling is newly developed and almost entirely accessible (no wonder you're likely to spot one or two wheelchair users when you take a relaxed stroll along the lakeside path past the accessible restaurants and cafés). This is great base to start a trip around Lake Burley Griffin. A couple of blocks inland from the foreshore is the accessible Old Bus Market Depots; transformed into a market on the weekends, a worthy focal point if you have a mobility impairment. And in the historic centre, the café strips are always buzzing with activity. Kingston is also right next to the Parliamentary Zone and is a five-minute drive from Australia's big attractions including Parliament House and the National Gallery of Australia.
